I want to try to sort it today
thanks !!

not completely sure on the makeup of the mk6, however if it's on a solid linkage the selector probably needs a little adjustment to push the rods into the selector fork a little.
if it's cable same thing really.
other than that i'd guess at seriously damaged internals of box, but very unlikely.

Can't find any decent pictures (Fiesta mk1/mk2? above), yours should look similar to this, and you should see where the shaft used to be situated against the linkage, as it will be rusty. When you push the lever into 1/3/5 it pulls the linkage backwards.
It's moved as it wasn't tight enough when you had the 'box out recently.

If you can move it back to where it used to be fitted it should be close enough, but if still struggling to get any gears , how I normally do them, is put it in 3rd, then slacken the 13mm nut so it moves on the shaft itself then tighten it up. (you need to move linkage forward/backwards on the shaft so you can get any of the 1/3/5 gears before you do this)

Ok, Update!
After tinkering about i can now get all gears apart from 1st. 3rd and 5th still don't feel as it should, like it could go forward a little more.
How do i set this linkage properly, where is the 3.5mm locking point?
Thanks people

Yes, tried 3rd 5th and reverse each time getting different responces from the stick.
The rod i'm clamping onto has movement if pulled or pushed by hand with force, where should it be set to before i clamp onto it? If that makes sence?
Thanks !

If in neutral then the middle of the two movements either direction (as one is 3rd and one is 4th).
Or if setting it with the gearstick in 3rd as described, then pull the rod away from the box then clamp on

Back again fella's
Ok, now selecting all gears, turning the wheels and seeing pistions moving up and down so thats confirmed,
Problem is, 1,3,5 gears are not fully enganging i think and it may pop out of gear when actually being driven.
What else could be the probem or is the lining up process down to the mm ?
Also, where is the 4th gear locking point, i want to try that way now?
Ta !!

Have you checked that the stick itself hasn't moved on the slotted bolts?these are pretty easy to set up in general.if it's not engaging properly check the linkage has full movement and nothings restricting it.
Odd really as I've seen these old escorts on 400000 miles with the stick like stirring soup with no issues.

EEK, the release baring is forked i'm sure, Thats this weekends job but i wanted to set gears up now as the engine is comming out weekend to be swaped with the same and i was going to do the baring with the box still in the motor.
Could the clutch being shot stop the gears with engine off?

Suppose not but a fcuked gearbox will!!
The proper way to adjust it is put the box into 4th gear then place the gearstick into 4th and centralise it and then tighten the bolt!
If that doesn't work then it ain't the selector / adjustment!
Either way I would pull the clutch out and check it when u take the engine out and obviously replace the release bearing aswell
But if the clutch looks fine and nothings broken up, then I would say box problems!!

Like i said, it's going into all gears and when i spin the wheeels the pistons travel but 1st 3rd 5th dont travel forward enough and lock in to posistion i think
Where is this 4th gear locking point please, my manual doesn't have this?
Thanks for the help mate!

there is no locking point!!!
get someone to hold the stick in 4th and ensure it is central and thats it!
after that its just a case of fine adjusting the stick so that when in neutral, the stick is in the middle and not to the side!!
