Default Zetec Engines

Hi all, the story is that im mid build of a zvh, i had a silvertop block, had it all painted, skimmed, honed, crank work done etc, when i took it to my mate to be built, noticed it had a gouge out of the bore on no.3 cylinder, essentially making it scrap. I bought another block already modded for zvh told it was a silvertop but wasnt but had been modded already so bit the bullet. Ive done some searching on here but cant find exactly what im looking for. What i really need to know is, can i use my crank from the silvertop as its had work already and the rods i have. Is anything else different?

And another thing is that obviously i bought a silvertop oil pump from burton i sent it back to swap for blacktop but they cant get hold of any, so where would you recommend i get one from, would you pay £197+ vat for gen ford one for peace of mind or go motorfactors/ebay for a pattern one??

Cheers in advance and sorry for the essay!
Neil.

they wont be much diff now between a gen or pattern pump, but your best bet is to get a good used one, clean it and check for scores on gears and check the p.r.v is clean and working fine,

better than having shattered gears, there has been alot of debate on this topic, the metal that they use in the new pumps is not up to the job really, this is what i have done on our build, the next step is a dry sump, i would not buy a new pump from any where now.

Silvertop and Blacktop cranks are the same so will be ok.

If you are interested I have a brand new Blacktop oil pump from an unrun bottom end (genuine ford)

cranks are the same, oil pump, well i run a 70k one, original are the best, as long they are stripped, cleaned and made sure there are no issues with them.

con rods aren't the same, neither are the pistons, but you only need to match pistons and rods, i.e. both blacktop together or silvertop.
blacktop type give better revving due to longer rod and shorter piston height.

Stick to blacktop piston and rods in a blacktop engine or your comp ratio's might be little out! Not sure which rod is shorter, but you could end up have a rather low comp ratio!

there's some confusing info.....
the silvertop pistons are taller to match the shorter rods, blacktops have longer rods, but shorter pistons, in effect they are identical matched pairs in length.
you can use silvertop rods and blacktop pistons as this gives the lowest CR, if the pistons are meant for a silvertop engines rods, then stick to those, otherwise you will find the piston hitting the head.

The first Zetec i built i bought an oil pump from ebay it was an "autopumps" make. But sold the engine befor i got it running. Then i built a cvh engine for some one and ordered a "high presure" oil pump from burtons when it arived it was an autopumps one with a different spring lolol. And a friend of mine built a zetec turbo with a new burton pump yup was an autopumps one lol. Ive fitted a 60k oil pump from an escort gti and its now gone on to 415hp with no problems the new ford pumps are crap!!! An old low milage pump is the way to go IMHO
