Mk 1 wipers starting on thier own

Hi can any help.
Driving home from work last night and my wipers front and rear started to go on their own.
Any ideas what it could be?

On slow speed, intermitent etc?

They where switch off

Yeah they came on intermitent speed

It could be something to do with the GEM, seen as both are doing it.

I forgot to say they went off after a minute and stay off and they work fine in all settings
