Default 02 Zetec S ABS Problem

Hi Ladies & Gents,

I'm really crap with technical stuff, and I'm really crap at explaining stuff so bare with me, but an issue has just come up with my 2002 Fiesta Zetec S and I thought what better place to come for a good answer than here!

Basically, I started my car this morning, the ABS light comes on as usual, but stays on, I continued my drive to work and had no issues whatsoever. Lunch time comes around, I nip out to get some grub and the ABS light is no longer on - all is well, or so I thought - but then all of a sudden as I'm braking at a very low speed, the ABS kicks in, along with a strange whirring/grinding kind of sound - naturally I crap myself because I'm not expecting it.

This happened two or three more times, all at low speeds, in just a short journey, obviously it isn't particularly ideal or safe, especially when I've got a bumper to bumper rush hour commute to contend with later.

Any ideas what the cause of this problem may be? what to check, how to fix it etc... All help greatly appreciated, Cheers!

I would check the sensors and the pick up rings to see if there is any dirt on them.

As said sensors are the first thing to check.
