Default 1.6 engines - are they the same.

Please forgive this question as I expect that it has been asked before but I am struggling to find the answer.
I have a 1996 Escort Cabrio with a 1.6 (90PS) sick engine. I have been offered a R reg 1.6 S Escort as a donnor, they look similar on the top but will it fit. All help and advice is appreciated.
thanks in advance.

1.6 zetecs were all the same up until the later se (has a black plastic cover)

Hes right though you'd be better off going for the 1.8.

Both the same, they are referred to as "Silvertops" the later Sigma units are totally different bar the name.
