When I got my 3dr the guy I got it off painted them gold

I painted them silver and think they look ok but im wanting to put them back to original finish "black inserts and chrome faced"

Can anyone give me some pointers on the best and easiest way to do so?

Best way is to send them to a wheel refurb specialist.

 

There is a frim in Milton keynes i think it is that everyone raves about on the rsoc. Only knew this as Im wanting to get mine done in the near future as the clearcote is starting to look aged

I suppose any wheel refurber can do it to a degree but i think id prefer someone who's got a reputation for these wheels to do mine. Some people spray them blak then diamond cut but im sure its a very very dark grey. Thats the difference between a good job and a great job for me. Knowing your onions and getting it perfect

Major ballache to do yourself, done a few in the past and is much easier to pay £40 odd quid a rim and get pristine or lepsons to do them. Tell them not to skim off the Ford badge on the centre cap though

 

So professional refurb is the way forward then?

I shall keep the 2 above companies in mind but does anyone know of anywhere in Scotland? would rather find somewhere up here to do them as I travel a lot with work and could just nip them in the passing.

Or tell everyone the caps are off a Merkur XR4ti - those are the same except they don't have the Ford badge! (And although the wheels look the same, they are narrower)

I only found out about the Merkur caps after I got my Ford ones done and left the badges untouched as there isn't enough depth to cut them.

Having them and the centre "nut" in the dark grey just isn't quite right. Damned near impossible to catch in a photo, though!

 

I didnt know that about the Merker ones Iain, handy to know. One of the fellas on the rsoc website found a trader selling new ford badges for the cosworth steering wheels, and it just so happens to be exactly the same size as the cast badge on the wheel centres, so that always an option if they have to be skimmed flat. They were only a few quid each as well
