Default N/A cossie in a Mk2

I am fitting a N/A cossie into my mk2 escort rally car I have finally got round to restoring. I have dummy fitted a block to a T5 gearbox and mounted it on pinto world cup engine mounts. The problem I have is that the gearstick hole is to close to the handbrake. has anyone else fitted a T5 box to a Mk2? Is this where it should be or have I got the engine mounts wrong and the whole lot needs to come forward. Any help would be appreciated

When you put a type 9 or a t5 box in a mk2 on crossmember mounts you normally have to shorten the handbrake handle

Think the T5 is slightly longer than the type 9. You could possibly solve the problem by fitting a quickshift to shorten the throw of the gearstick and possibly bendinging the lever foward slightly so it doesn't hit the handbrake in 2nd and 4th gears.

For the Cosworth gearbox I moved the handbrake mounting hole backwards an inch or so.

As above a fabricated the mounting points on the hand brake to move it back slightly

And the hole where the gear lever came through had to be moved back I was on a type 9 tho

You do relise the t5 is a big heavy box and you would be better off with a straight cut type 9

Thanks for your input guys we have fabricated a gearbox mount using a type 9 mounting and extended it and bolted through the floorpan to h duty steel plate with bolts made captive on it so it just needs the nuts taking off from underneath to get the box out.
We reckon the type 9 and T5 gearboxes are about the same length, the problem arose because it previously had a rocket box in it. As part of the restoration we fabricated a large gearbox tunnel so we had no problems with clearance. The propshaft had to be shortened by 55mm.
The box and prop are now in place we have gone for an hydraulic handbrake next to the gear lever as when the seat is in if the handbrake lever is moved further back I will not be able to give it a good tug. We may locate original handbrake further back or shorten the lever on it to retain a cable handbrake as per MSA regulations

Whilst not fitted into an escort, i had the same issue with a type 9 box/cosworth engine and the handbrake. I got round the problem by cutting off the top section of the gearbox tail housing, shortened the selector rod and moved the gearstick mount forward by 4" and re-welding it. Works perfectly and has done for years now.

It's another option.

Thanks!
Mine's a genuine 2ltr putting out 230bhp at the flywheel. Not mega power tbh! Only running a standard cossie crank, could get more if I went for a steel crank and revised head porting n cam combo! BUT...the wallet isn't too keen on that idea! Lol. Millington gets about 280 out of his 2ltrs...show off! Lol.

Nice looking engine bay mate. We have slowed down on build a bit has we have had to rebuild the Escort Cossie rally car engine and that means taking all the front end off to get it out.

Hoping to get the Mk2 finished in a month or so just rewiring at the moment
