Default Drove a 997 4S last night - what a machine!

My twin brother popped round last night to show off his latest purchase - a black 997 4S

We went for a drive and he was taking it realtively easy as he has only ever driven it twice. Then i jumped in and he crapped himnself

The car certainly goes well and sounds immense with the sports exhausts Handles well too as its 4 wheel drive but the back end still kicked out a little on the roundabout which was fun although i dont think my brother enjoyed it too much as he was complaining about the cost of tyres

Not as quick as my old 400bhp 3dr in a straight line but its effortless power delivery and you dont actually realise how fast you are actually going.

I was saying to my brother why am i waisting loads of money at old sierras when you get have something like that for 35k and the 2S is 10k cheaper which i prefer too.

Anyone else driven one and what did you think?

i drove a few at a porsche "show off the cars" day. aparently every dealer does a few every year so try and blag one if you can.

drove a conversable 4 with auto/trip and HATED it

drove a manual 2S and loved it! i used to think the only 911 worth having was the turbo up until i drove a normal one and realised how awesome they were!

then i got a go in a GT2, OMFG! nippy!

lol 997 sounds awesome, must make a good daily

Does he have a passion for Fords too?

Ran i know what you mean about the costs - you can have a decent mileage 996 Turbo for 20k - 20k will only take you a couple of months to save

Driven my bosses 997 turbo a bit, and its awesome on track, i get very nervous around town in it, though. don't want to be the one that damages it!

a lot easier to live with than his old 996 gt3

They live in the shadow of the GT and the Turbo's so everyone thinks they are slow.

You need a post 2006 one otherwise you might have engine issues.

the 3.8's are epic!

997 get but boring after a while and too easy to drive. Least with the older Porsches and turbos you get the thrill of living on the edge. Good cars but not really a proper divers car anymore. 993s much better man.

People are quite dismissive of the "lower" model 997s, ie the non turbo and not RS models etc, but they are still very good cars.

I seriously doubt you can keep up with a well driven 997 C4S around the wisties in a Sierra...very good car and íf you find someone at the wheel that's not scared you can corner at immense speeds!

I'd love to drive (and own) a porsche, any 911 model, they look great, and from what I've read/watched on tv they go great too. A must if the lottery numbers ever come up.

The new c2s is quicker round the ring than the outgoing gt3

The standard 'lower' Porsches are much underrated by people who don't really know what they're on about and IMO are cheap for what you get.

Not many standard cars with that performance and normal service schedules
