Default Granada mk2 carb V6 info

Alright chaps, ive had a mk2 granada hearse come in the yard today for scrap, the engine is fecking beautiful and i was thinking of having it for my mk2 cortina.

But i'd like to know the tuning possibilities. Its a carb v6, so i presume 2.8 .Can these be tweaked with carbs and some nice exhausts? its literally silent on tickover (being a hearse i wouldn't expect anything less tbh ) but i want that proper v6 burble if i take the time and effort to get it into mine . Can it be achieved before i go to muchos effort?

Cheers , Joe.

Are you sure its a 2.8 and not a essex 3.0 if its carb'ed, here's my dads mk2 with a 3.1 essex.

Tuning wise not that easy to do tripple webbers cost a small fortune or a 4 barrel holly is a cheaper option both of wich you will have to cut a hole in the bonnet to fit.

A 38 carb, cam, lightened flywheel and headers are the most realistic mods.

I think edelbrock used to do inlets etc for these so should be able to fit a holley carb etc etc. Or triple webbers or something similar. It will have good silencers as obviously being a hearse it need to be discreet. Id say a single silencer system in your tina should have it sounding fruity

With regards to the above poster about the 3.0 engine. Im almost 100% they never fitted the 3.0 into the mk2 granny as standard. A cousin of mine had quite a few and they did do a carbed 2.8. In the ghia and ghia x. They also did the injected model too in the slightly later models i beleive. same sort of time they brought out the sierra xr4i

Here's one with a carb fitted and K&N filter

Cheers for the info. I have no idea on the engine size yet i havent had chance to check. It came in this afternoon and i just got it running for the craic round the yard. Wheni heard how sweet it was i started getting ideas! Ha. I thought with a decent exhaust it'd sound nice but wasnt sure if the carb'd ones were worth messing wth over an injection for example. Love that one above btw! I dont sppose you know how hard it is to mount do you?

They fitted a 2.3 v6 in the mk4/5 tina so maybe those mounts will fit? Wiring is fairly basic also

Cheers I'll look into that. I'm ok with wiring and general mechanics but fabricating isn't something I've done much of especially on something as important as an engine mount but I'll look into it. Also with the granny being a scrapper I can chop any bits out I want which is a bonus cheers.

if its a mk2 granada it could be either a 2.3 or a 2.8. you would be better off with a tweaked pinto though. even the 2.8 only makes about 130hp if your lucky. not much in the way of tuning for them.

The tuning aspect isnt great but if it is the 2.8 you could always try to source some TT bits and change it over too injection.A bloke close to me does a bit of head work for the banger lads, seems to work
As already said though,2.3 and 2.8 were variants on a mk2.

Theres quite abit to do if your mk2 is standard i.e. on a steering box, hyd clutch and std tunnel all these will need looking at along with the gear box and prop.

It isn't as simple as just putting the engine in but saying that its not realy difficult as i did it,

Once you make the comitment to move away from the x flow im not sure if i would go for a v6 cologne tuning and parts arnt that avalable or cheap.

Ive got loads of pictures and info if you go for it, im now in the middle of building a caged and semi spaced framed yb powered mk2.

cheers for all info, Im taking the engine, box and prop out on saturday after work. the only reason im thinking of it is cos my x flow is tired and it was either freshen that up, or fit a zetec on carbs this summer but then this landed and its free + runs really nice so its just the decision like you say, once i ditch the x flow any other engine is going to require some work. Also i understand about tuning it , a K&N and some exhausts will do me for that nice rumble (tbh thats all i really want). I have the orion to go fast in.
Any pics you have mid build of the engine bay would be awesome thanks. I wont be starting it yet anyway it will be done in the lighter, warmer evenings once ive done loads of reading up and collecting more parts! i might live to regret ever seeing the thing.

The steering box is + was going anyway , new brakes + capri struts and a rebuilt front clip were already on the shopping list but lastly is gearbox.
Theres an auto box fitted at the minute which i dont want. but im not sure what box to go for, i dont really want a 5 speed but not sure of my options on a 4. or infact any gearboxes on these engines.

Any idea what will fit?

Sorry for all the daft questions. Joe.

Gear box wise if your sticking with the 2.8 would be a type 9 not sure about the bell housing needed to put a four speed on, i would go for the 5 speed if you do any miles it makes such a difrence.

X meber will need changing to a moded capri or a custom one like mine with a escort rack, then you will need compression struts or a escort anti roll bar fitting and new/moded tca's

Capri legs need converting to coil over springs.

A good conversion is a nissan 200sx turbo engine can pick a donar car up for £600 its an easy way to a couple of hundred horse power,

I'm now on my third mk2 conversion now Pm your e mail and when you make a start give us a shout,
