You don't need to jailbreak to unlock networks. Just call the provider it's locked to and they are legally obliged to network unlock it

it is yes.

Basically when you open redsnow it tells you how to do it on screen, it will guide you through putting the phone into dfu mode, then after that you just click one button and thats it, the pc/redsnow will do the rest.

If you get stuck just post back on here

Here you go http://tipsneeded.com/download-ios-42-ipsw/

Go down abit and click on your phone model, big download so i hope your internet isnt too slow

Basically it wants you to direct redsnow to this file after its downloaded, after that you should be able to carry on

EDIT forgot to add, when your on redsnow read everything carefully and make sure you put a little tick in the "cydia" box, as you want this installed at the same time

I know whats happened, you've looked at that link that akamob posted havent you? That really does overcomplicate things and make it look alot harder than it is.

Other option would be take it to your local market, they normally have a phone unlocking stall

Just seems alot there for the sake of opening redsnow and clicking 2/3buttons. But then im someone who likes to scrap the instructions and get on with it, then deal with the consequences later

you can't really mess it up, if you do, just restore with itunes and start again.

you can't harm the phone by jailbreaking as it can always be reverted back to how it was,

just don't update the baseband to 6.15 or you will be in trouble....
