Default 2.0 DOHC Sierra Estate LSD, what can I use?

Hello,

I've bought a J plate Sierra Ghia Estate to run around in while my other cars are off the road for winter.

It is pretty much standard but I have some cheap and cheerful mods to do. It's just for a bit of a laugh.

It's a 2.0 DOHC L4 engine with manual gearbox. The question I have is what LSD can I use for this? I know a cossie one will fit but is there any others? Did any of the Granadas or Scorpios come with LSD's? I can't handle driving RWD with an open diff! lol.

Thanks,
Stephen

granada and scorpios have 7.5" diff, unless it was a 2.8 granada 4x4 that has a 7" LSD

So is the 7.5" diff that was in the granada and scorpios an LSD or open diff? Will it fit?

the 7.5 in a granada unless a 24v granada scorpio is open the 24v is open
your sierra will have a 7" rear diff

You need the diff from any 4x4 sierra as they are all lsd and 7"

First off you need to check if you have a 7" or 7 1/2" fitted. As the dohc came with either. Also you need to know if it's push in or bolt on shafts.
Bolt on shafts is easy just swap for an LSD unit. Xr4x4, cosworth 4x4 are the same 3.64 7" diffs.
Or Granada 24v cosworth, 2wd Sierra cosworth are 3.64 7 1/2".
The only different LSD unit was fitted to the dohc 4x4 sierras. This was a 3.92 7" LSD. All LSD diffs have bolt on shafts.
So if yours is a push in type you need to make up hybrid shafts or swap out the axle.

There was a push in type LSD unit for the xr4i 2.8 but I dout that you will find one. Rare factory option

with the info you have given, you will have a 3.92:1 7.5 inch open diff with bolt on 100mm flanges (ghia model will have abs and rear discs)

to find a lsd to replace it you will need to source a diff from either any 4wd sierra (but only the dohc ones came with the same ratio, the rest were all 3.62:1) or possibly from a 24v granada (but not scoprio as they had traction control and no lsd)
you won't be able to fit the one from a 2wd (cosworth) car as the flanges were bigger at 108mm

everything will fit but if you get the smaller 7 inch diff you may need to find the longer drive shaft for one side as they came in either 20.5 inch, 20 inch or 18.5 inch lengths, but seeing as everything from anything other than a 2wd cos will do the job as long as it's long enough, it's not going to be a problem

I've had a few cars and welded the diffs, I'm using this daily and can't be bothered skipping round the works car park lol. Would prefer a decent working LSD.
