goes to show, even if on the face of it, a car looks like a wreck, with a bit of time and elbow grease, there could could be a very nice car under there

Indeed mate! I've wet sanded many cars with great results but none quite as bad as this!

So someone paid this guy six grand for 5 days work?!
Only real outlay apart from his cleaning stuff seems to be a pair of tyres as well...

surely the car is worth £6k, not the detail.....

you could get it resprayed for 2k.

There was a guy in SCC last month with a Mk2 Focus RS and he had spent 5 months of evenings and weekends wet sanding with 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit paper and the shine was unbeleivable... Gotta have big balls to take sand paper to a brand new car lol

Anyone who pays 6k for a car cleaned needs their fucking head testing. Fair play to the bloke who managed to take that much money from some mong though.

6 grand for 49 hours work is a decent wage thats for sure.

Madness spending that sort of cash to polish a car thats already had a respray, if it was a rare car on its original paint then fair enough, but not one thats already had paint.

Price isnt just for the paint though of course, they've done a great job of the interior etc

thinking the same as everyone else, £6k all because he didnt want the car resprayed, thats allready had paint

Could have had a nice vinal wrap and 5k in his pocket,

or outted the car, and put the cash and the 6k into a decent 10K M5

Still looks a very good job

49 hours work, 2 people so 98 hours in total. By my maths that works out around £61 an hour before taking into account products used etc so not that bad a price.

Paul is regarded as the best detailer in the world,he charges £75 per hour (iirc )
You wont know how much these details will cost anymore, the mods on dw have put new rules down so you cant say how much you charged.

Would only be 61 quid an hour if the two detailers got the same money, they wont have done.

I dont think anyone is saying that the work isnt worth good money, more that the work is wasted on an old half-resprayed M5.

If it was a 355 on original paint that was scratched that badly, everyone would think it was money well spent I suspect.

No. Even in them circumstances i'd think the bloke had been bummed.

It's blatently a case of people having too much money. But like i said before, fair play to the people who are taking it.

Before anyone says it - i do know what goes into detailing a car and i still think the same.

what is more concerning, is what a detailer can do to hide years of neglect........... obviously this car HASN'T had the love and care that an M5 deserves.... yet some unsuspecting prospective buyer will think it is a minter and pay top dollar for it..........

I dont think that polishing out a few swirl marks from a car wash etc is quite the same as making a cut and shut like you make it sound

LOL it wasn't meant to sound like that, although questions have to be raised on every level of maintenance, if it has had it's bodywork neglected so badly.......

Another example, possibly with better results than the M5..... BUT based on the before picture, would you buy this corrado?

Yes I'd still buy that car if it was up at a sensible price, I know plenty of people who never wash their car and yet still maintain the service history.

Even in the after the paint scratches are still there, and at least it looks like its all original paint so unlikely its been crashed etc other than the real minor stuff you can still see anyway.

And if you read people only moan when he doesn't state a price, swings and roundabouts people who know him on there know what he charges roughly so it comes as no surprise to most

As said i think it was a marketing pitch using the 6k figure( not that he needs one) although this is not an usual price for this kind of work by the likes of top pro detailers.

A top spec mulberry VR6, i would defo buy it

A car can be worth alot more to somebody than money, and this guy seems to be able to do far more than a respray could, and get better results... mind, german paint is thick!
