Last week I started to get vibrations in my steering and overall the car felt very wooly.

Yesterday I noticed one of my back wheels looked abit low, not allot but just a little bit. So when I went to fill up this morning I checked all my tyre pressues, expecting this one wheel to be 25-30psi ish.
Machine said 9psi I more than reckon someones let a good chunk of air out of it as the dust cap was missing.
Since it's been pumped up this morning it dosen't look to have lost any air, and the cars feeling fine again.

But I'm afriad the tyres going to let go? It started vibrating last Thursday maybe? I did 100 miles on Thursday, and another on Friday, did 50 miles over the weekend and another 200 miles over Monday and tuesday. So this tyre has done about 450miles with 9psi in it.

Would you risk it? Only issue rises is I can only afford to replace the one at the moment, I like to change tyres in pairs. The tyre phsyically looks fine, but I don't know if I trust it?

Even though the tyre only had 9psi in it, it didn't look that low on air?

Take a look at the sidewalls, if it looks like an eraser has been over it, its most likely done.. you could just take it apart and have it checked. If its full of pieces from the walls then I wouldn't use it.

 

The tyre looks fine, it didn't even look that low! More so looked like there was more weight on that side of the car sort of thing.
Maybe it's worth getting it checked.

 

there is a good chance that it's been shafted as the sidewalls have overheated

if it had been driven a few miles then maybe, but as said, get it to a tyre place to get the valve swapped at least, when they take it off the rim if it's full of bits inside you WILL need a new tyre

any chance you can use the spare in the meantime?

as others have said if there markings on the sidewalls on the outside of the tyre then ask any tyre place to get it checked out by a proper tyre place. and remember don't fall for the first tyre place as they can usually trap you by increasing the price of a tyre. shop around, have a look on the internet print out some quotes and usually some places like national tyres and kwik fit can match them over the counter as long as you have a printed quote for like for like tyre

 

I only use a Black Circles supplier down in Llandow because I can look at their prices first.
The tyre does look perfect, but I'm not even going to chance it.

 

Get the tyre taken off for a look, often it'll only show inside, if its full of rubber dust, its scrap.

 

In short... yes I would.

My dippy ex drov ethe car with about that much pressure, only drove it for about 2 miles but the sidewall was roasting and when we popped the tyre off to check it was full of rubber. Then the miserable bitch gave me shit for spending £100 on a new tyre.

 

Depends on the car and how fast you drive it.

Many years ago I had a cavalier and was driving along and thought it felt like a rear tyre was low, kept meaning to stop at the services (was on motorway at the time) as it vibrated everytime I got to about 80mph so was quite noticable, but I kept forgetting to stop, in the end I drove 200 miles all the way home, and when I got out to check, I could fit 4 fingers in the hole in the tyre!

So on a car like that (front wheel drive, low performance, not driven hard) I'd live with it having had 9psi in on the basis it probably wont let go and even if it does its unlikely to do much harm (especially if unlike me all those years ago you bother to stop at the first sign of trouble)

If it was on the back of my 3 door though, no chance. Blowout at 160mph = no fun at all i expect

 

im a mechanic and it wouldnt bother me one bit, but having said that most problems with cars dont bother me one bit, its a mechanic thing lol

 

Sidewalls are shagged on 3 of the 4 tyres on my new alloys, but the odd thing is the tread is near enough new, but the alloys were heavily kerbed so i guess some woman owned the alloys before i did, ive had a tyre that would go down every few days but was too lazy and busy to get the puncture repaired and just kept blowing it back up, did about 1000 miles on it before i got pissed off with keep blowing it up and i remember it had more rubber on the inside of the tyre than the outer when we changed it

 

i'de leave it but then my bmw has run flats on the front and the nearside tyre is always going down - it must be fooked but im not changing it until we put it on the rear and burn it out

 

i drove a mile with one flat on cos and it fooked it,id definetly change it for piece of mind.

 

4 new budgets £200 down the drain, but such is life.
Font tyres were low on thread ~2mm, then I wanted to get the rear tyre changed for piece of mind aswell.
Got the tracking done for £20 though

And managed to blag 30% discount in fords buying servicing parts
