vw in wrc
I used to love it about 10-12 years ago but it doesn't do anything for me these days. Used to be lots of manufacturers, most were competitive and there were star names driving, all pretty similar skill levels, lots on and around the 20 WRC wins mark. You didn't know who'd win from one event to the next. Also, they were driving cars I liked and aspired to own (Escort Cosworth, Celica GT4, Lancers, Impreza's, etc)
Loeb and Citroen were the death of it for me, just wiped the floor with everyone.

It's nice to see another manufacturer going back to the sport, but there still needs to be big changes IMO.
More tarmac rounds, longer stages, events covering more than just a tiny area, a proper British round, and they need to put a stop to people messing about with penalties and things to upset the running order.
Would also be nice if those in charge could get someone like ITV4 interested in it. It needs proper coverage to get the fans back!

I agree, but I guess it get's a bit tedious when the same guy wins over and over. But despite that, there's still a lot more action than in the F1, but they hardly rub neck and neck in the corners like in the F1.
But it deffo needs to be televised more, like how Ice Hockey isn't a major sport in this country but its still very popular. The final of the Winter Olympics was televised on BBC on a Saturday night, Team Canada VS Team USA and everyone loved it! Even ended up in the papers
So the WRC really needs to be televised more than just on Men and Motors and Dave

Not on Dave anymore is it? On Motors TV a bit I think.
ITV4 have given a lot to the BTCC coverage, and I think that's really helped its popularity, so WRC needs something similar. Sadly though, the UK seems to be getting a little bit anti-rallying now, so I can't see it happening!

ESPN buyin the television rights kinda killed it this year. daves coverage, however poor, at least brought WRC to the masses. few people have a sports tv package, and even fewer bother with ESPN. the motors tv coverage is substantial enough to keep enthusiasts satisfied, but not exactly happy. they only have rights for mostly in-car stuff, hardly any cameras out on stage, im guessing again due to ESPN owning the main broadcast rights. shame really
what happened to the days in the late 80s and early 90s where i think it was bbc who had the rally review show, and the RAC rally had an evening slot at prime time on a main channel! and then live mickey mouse style stages in the afternoon!
main thing britain needs is another british rallying star, like mcrae and burns. that will get people taking notice again. so hopefully matthew wilson can make headway, and meekes! if ken block can almost single handedly make rallying huge over the pond, it cud be done over here with the right star and the right marketing

Good to see more manufactures entering, I would like to see it back on Ch 4, they did a great job at the start of the 2000's. Cant see it for a while though.
I remember Rally Report well, Tony Mason presenting with William Woolard. Used to be on BBC2 every night of the RAC which was 4 or 5 days long. Great theme tune as well.

surely bbc cud easily afford to buy rights to televise the WRC, especially now the F1 has gone. even if they have to put it on bbc3, it would still get watched. me n my mate have started watchin the wrc coverage shown on s4c for fuck sake, cant understand a word of it, but at least its coverage
oh id love it if the Beeb bought back the rights to rallying its such a wicked sport.
i've read that the MSA have lobbied the government with a petition to hold closed rd events in the UK like they do on the isle of man, Ireland and in Europe. i think its going well too.
if that was to happen god it would be cool seeing some of the motor clubs or wrc on local country rds or towns and villages, be like having our own Monte
