Default Virgin media!! Trojan

Right we have just switched from bt to virgin media on our broadband, now I can't say how happy we are with the speed. (so much quicker) The problem we have is that we got an email saying that our anti virus software from bt will now longer work.

So I uninstall it and then install the virus protection from virgin and in that time approx 10 mins we have a Trojan!!! Now happy!

It's now doing a scan.

The question is will the virus software remove this trojan???

Cheers andy

Fuck the rest use the best, Malwarebytes anti malware and Spybot search and destroy both are free although malwarebytes you can upgrade by paying but the free version saved my PC from a serious infection

the free stuff is usually shite to reel you in as most people think you have to pay for decent software, if you look hard enough, or come to passionford aka passion pc, you dont, as suggested above, use avast as a firewall and constant protection, then malwarebytes just incase anything really serious breaks past avast, but aslong as you keep it up to date you will be fine.

Whats the name of the trojan, if you know you have one, it must have a name?

As for AV and Spyware stuff.

Avast.com for the AV program. Use this alongside Immunet which is a cloud based AV & Spyware tool. Both work together very well. You can use Spybot and Malwarebytes to scan for Spyware, but don't use the realtime scanners they want to install. The above mentioned programs will catch the alerts and all you will be doing is slowing the machine down.

You can also do something called Sandboxing. Basically, this runs your internet explorer in an isolated environment so anything that happens within it, won't affect the rest of your computer. When you clsoe IE, anything naughty that may have happened is deleted and your system is safe. A free one you can use is sandboxie (http://www.sandboxie.com/). Its easy to setup and should prevent further issues.

Cheers

Matt
