Default Fiesta ST Opinions

Hi everyone.

Considering selling my Altezza and getting back into having a Ford as my daily, starting to take a liking to the Fiesta ST. I know its a completely different car to the Altezza but i dont NEED a car that big and RWD will get me in trouble sooner or later with the locals.

So basically any opinions on the Fiesta ST are appreciated. Quality, mpg, costs etc.

Thanks

Might be different in Ireland, but will it be garaged?

As everyone I know whos had one, has lost bits of it when its parked up, ie, front bumpers, skirts, rear spoiler etc, they seem to have a habit of going walkies.

actually i remember reading about that somewhere. the front bumpers are very easy to take off apparently...

There's actually not 1 single Fiesta ST for sale in Ireland so theres not many of them about so i reckon the demand for the parts wouldnt be all that high. Car would be on my drive but nothings been taken from Mondeo ST's or XR2is..

2 litre engine, only 150hp, high insurance costs, fuel costs aren't too fantastic, small, only 3 door.

Perhaps my priorities have changed since I had one but I would certainly never buy another!

hi mate my bro's got the fiesta st150. Its got shit brakes as standard, never really seems to kick u back in the seat and costs a fortune to get more power out of it for 20or 30bhp tops.

Apart from that seats are comfy which is good as daily driver mpg isnt that great although im not 100% on that.

All in all its not a bad little car but dont expect to much bang for your buck or you'l be very disappointed

Had one when my focus Rs was in for call back parts and absolutely loved it..... It reminded me off the mk1 xr2 days bit with alot more comfort.... I took it down the lanes at some silly speeds and it was very positive... I would deffo own one.

The mrs has one. Gotta say pretty dissapionting.

It's lowered on eibacks, cat back, k and n, quick shift. St 170 breaks alround, and put-on to et35 wheels ( this did actually make a vast improvement. )

It's rattaly

It's rattaly, ride quality is shocking. Pops out of second ( common problem) crap on fuel ( 29 mpg with a bird driving) and attracts the wrong sort of attention. Not actually very quick either.

Wish spent the extra couple of grand and got a nice civic type r.

Actually prefere my puma powered zetec s to it. :-(

As already said. Standard breaks are crap hence ours being on 300 mm front set up and 278 mm rear.

not as quick as its rivals, really need to hammer it to get it going well
clutch is a cunt

It's the creaking and rattles that get me. Hers has only done 27 odd k lol.

It's nippy, could almost call it sporty if you absolutely rape it, does side ways quite well aswell lol.

Prefered my 206 gti as a similar car

looks like im one if a few that really rate it. There are a lot of cars out there that would beat the fiesta but its a solid little runner. I don't think il sell mine anytime soon. Would even consider never selling it. Standard brakes are crap but don't make the mistake I made and put ebc discs on it. Warped the minute I stood on them. Not cool.

My misses had one for a couple of years, only issues we had were ...

electric mirror motor went - replaced under warranty
front seat tip mechanism seized - replaced under warranty

both are common, have also heard of power stearing pumps going, and also something on the gearbox/clutch if treated badly.

Those side they seem pretty reliable.

Personally I think that they are firsty for the power they give out, not that rapid, felt a bit harsh and tinny. I actually found the m5 zetec s's more fun.

Not a bad car all round and still look good, but if you want power, you may feel let down, and if you arent that mad for power, then maybe look to the mk6 zetec s?

They also did a slight facelift iirc, headlights centre console.

Cheers for the comments guys, seems to be mixed opinions really, I know Fords are usually more about making an engaging car that just laps up the twisty bits and love to be thrashed but i think i need to look at something a bit kinder on petrol but with a bit more pace. The reason i was looking at the Fiesta ST was because i want to get back in the Ford stable with my daily yet still have something that can keep with some of the Jap-boys around my way.

I reckon im going to have to get out there and drive one or at least blag a ride in one before i head down the road of buying one.

Thanks again

I just find the whole experience of driving it numb.

Crappy fly by wire throttle, over servod crap breaks, power steering pump has gone on ours once and is whining again

They just didn't try hard enough, feels like a 1.4 some ones plonked a under powered 2.0 in really. And that's all it is.

Lovely chassis, good fun but woefully under powered. Mate had a Mountune 185 conversion on his with the optional coilovers and it became the car Ford should have given us from the off.

Pains me to say but a Clio 172/182 Cup would knock one into next week although have a more plastic feel

Got one, love it. Couple small mods. Enjoy it enough.

Loves the back lanes and cruises easy enough. I do get a sore ass if driving for more than a couple hours though!

Very chuckable, but needs the lowering and spacers or lower offset wheels!

I have mine for around a year now, and have to agree to some that was mentioned.

It`s a fun to drive, but really doesnt feel like 150bhp. And for those 150bhps it need a lot of fuel!

I had one and didn't keep it for very long.

Build quality is not impressive. Plastics in the cabin feel cheaply made. The engine is unrefined and the gear ratios too short - nearly 4000rpm in 5th at 70mph leads to bleeding ears. It's not comfortable in the slightest.

I found that the Pirellis fitted to my car gave the steering a glassy unconnected feel. It would seem tyre choice is very critical.

I'd pass on an ST, and find something else.
