Default Zetec engine

Can anyone tel me how to identify the cc of a zetec engine ie 1.6 or 1.8?

Iv jus bought an s-reg escort and was told it was a 1.6 but the log book says 1796 wich im guessin means its a 1.8. The dvla have allready cocked up wen the previouse owner changed address they added an extra keeper on so i thought mayb they have cocked up with the cc on the logbook.

Is ther any visual signs or marking that will allow me to find out?

Thanks
Craig

Cast into the side of the block above the main breather iirc. it'll either have 16 or 18 in digits about an inch high

As said if Zetec-E you can identify by number on block, yes it's always rounded to the nearest whole, i.e. 1596cc is 1.6 and 1796cc is 1.8, if you are looking at a Zetec-S then it won't be a 1.8 period!
