Basically ive got a 2001 reg focus panther black, wash it, shammy it off, and then i polish it with autoglym super resin, and it looks mint.

Then during the course of the week it gets dirty as its my daily car, so on the weekend i wash it again, always rinse it, get the grit off so it doesnt create swirl marks etc, but what annoys me is basically i wash it, polish it, it looks mint, it gets dirty a week later i wash it again shammy it off and it looks awful, all the swirl marks and little scuffs i managed to buff out with the autoglym seem to re appear, it must have had had 3 coats of black t cut and about 15 coats of resin polish and the paintwork still feels gritty and rough in areas to feel?

Am i using the wrong polish? Or do i need a sealant or something to keep the shine/good condition after the resin polish? Can anyone recommend me something, as everytime i wash it i have to polish it, otherwise it just looks rough..

first problem could be what your drying it with, try using a water magnet/drying towel, also SRP has fillers which build up and hide alot of imperfections in your paint and you are basically washing some off each time, may be worth giving it a clay then polish and see how it looks.

 

Have u clayed ur car? That makes a big differnce and I use a hybrid wax lasts for 6 months. So I just need to wash it

 

So basically the polish it just being washed off?, so i need to use a wax? what would you recommend? ill try claying it someone else said to do that, i use microfibre cloths to polish it thanks

I've owned two now, wouldn't have another, very time consuming plus I'm a picky Fu!ker with my paintwork. It's gotta be right!

 

Someone i know gets cheap detailing stuff and hes posted me out a pot of dodo juice purple haze wax? hes said to wash the car, clay it (also sent me a meguairs clay kit, spray and clay) , rinse the car, dry it, polish it with the autoglym, then apply the dodo juice using 2 fingers on a microfibre cloth, takes ages though he said and ive got to keep the wax warm or it will crumble and get messy, that audi looks mint, suprised it lasted 10 years looking that nice without some nasty sod keying it or something ! as that what tends to usually happen, but yeah that would be much appreicated. thankyou

 

Ideally if your car is that bad could do with a machine polish to get it looking it's best.

 

Basically when i got her i used some black t cut on her which hid and still has hid and got rid of most of the scuffs and scratches, but a few still surface after a wash.

stop polishing it over and over, wash it, clay it, polish it wax it. wax makes a massive difference, give it a few coats of carnuaba wax wwill make the shit drop right off the paintwork when it rains etc.

 

I dont polish it over and over for the fun of it you know ! lol its only because it looks rough again after a wash.

It looks pretty immaculate there because i polished it quickly, didnt go to town on it was just a 20 min wax on wax off with a thin layer of autoglym, but ive been sent some of that dodo juice wax been told to apply a couple of layers of that, after claying it/polishing it first obviously

 

Auto Glym Resin Polish is not a wax or a final product, a wax will seal the finish and enhance it. STOP using tcut it is the most abrasive polish out there and this will be ruining your paint work.
Autoglym has fillers and will hide the swirls when you wash it they come back, get some poorboys black hole and use this instead of SRP one buffed off use a wax. Nattys blue paste is a great wax, cheap and easy to use for begginers.

This is after a machine polish, poorboys black hole, Dodo Juice blue velvet wax and Z8 grand finale, the next time i washed it i used a mild shampoo and a plush drying towel and it looked the same for at least 2 months.
Get a mild shampoo as if your shampoo is too agressive it will strip off all the fillers, polish wax etc

 

Whats the best shampoo to use?

 

There are lots and lots of good shampoo's, but I like Chemical guys citrus wash and gloss. AG bodywork shampoo conditioner is also very good.

II wouldn't bother spending more money on polishes, SRP is very good. By all means get a wax. The problem is as someone said that you are probably masking a lot of the swirls with the fillers in SRP. After a short while these wear off. The best course of action is a proper machine polish to get rid of the swirls.

Also, for drying get a decent towel rather than a chamios.

When I had a black Focus ST I did a marathon cleaning session on it and after it just needed a wash and occasional wax top up.

Was with Meguires gold class shampoo
Clay
Wash again
Polish with SRP
Seal with Poorboys sealant
Wax with dodo juice purple haze wax

Once a month I just added another coat of wax and the shit and water just runs off it

 

first off you should fuck off the black t-cut and the autoglym! both imo are crap. both are full of baulking agents which are chalk. these dust up and on a black cr you will be chasing dust forever!!
i own a gloss black car and its THE hardest colour to keep looking good.it scratches easy amd shows any imperfection.

if it is covered in swirls you need to address this rather than mask it with poor product. 95 percent of swirls an scratches come from washing.if you use a sponge bin it!a good wash mitt is the best item.and either use the two bucket method(one with clean water in to rinse the mitt in and the other with shampoo in),or use a bucket with a gritguard so it traps the grit at the bottom of the bucket(i use tow buckets both with grit guards). and imo to dry you should be using a drying towel/watermagnet as these are softer and also dont dry and crack and remove less wax from the car.
i would first start by claying the car to remove any bonded contaminents like tree sap,bird lime etc.
to address your swirls you can either use a dual action polisher(meguiars g220 v2 is awesome) or you can do by hand if you dont have access to a polisher.
either way you can use meguiars ultimate compound to do this.it will safely remove them leaving a swirl free finish ready for you to polish.
i then use meguairs show car glaze pure polish(no bulking agents so no dust)being pure means less product is used and this will "mosturise"the paint deepening the colour.
then i seal it in with a good quality wax, i use meguiars number 26 high tech yellow wax. its a high carnuba content wax which is easy to use and gives a great finish and lasts.
then you will find you have to only wax it even now an then rather than trying to polish and hide the issue you have like you were before.

personally i wouldnt use super resin polish on a black car mate.
i would wash and clay the car first.
i use autoglym ultra deep shine as its designed for dark cars.
It is awesome at removing light scratching too
apply with a microfibre cloth,and remove with a microfibre cloth.
then i use autoglym hd wax or meguiars gold wax with the supplied applicator pads.

 

i hate ultra deep shine too tbh.and hd wax is hard work in comparison to meguiars and dodo juice imo

Thats awesome, well today it was kind of clean, but really dusty, so i blasted it over with the jetwash and gave it a quick wash, went over it a few times with the clay, the clay bar now being a dirty brown colour instead of white ! washed and rinsed again, dried, then gave it a coat of resin polish, buffed that off, then i put some dodo juice purple haze on it, i did the passenger wing first and only that, and the wing looked a different colour to the door ! paint is as smooth as glass, water just runs straight off it, takes so so long with the dodo juice wax tho, achy fingers !, ill get some pictures up soon, bullet your car is mint, did you machine polish it? what products do/did you use? my bonnet and roof are the worst parts !

 

i did use a meguiars da polisher. but tbh you can still get as near as damn it results from using ultimate compund by hand.it just takes longer. see my list in the posts above for what i use.
anyone that has used the stuff i suggest hasnt been disappointed. and being gloss black it is a difficult colour to maintain as it marks very easy due to no laquer

 

I thought there was a clear coat on top of panther black? Is it just 2 pack mettalic then? Primer and paint basically? Didnt know that !

 

yeah yours does have a clear coat laquer.
mine doesnt.gloss black is a solid unlaquered colour

 

Here's mine, wash with meguairs shampoo, clay, Poorboys polish, black hole and wax. Needs a good machine polish though as the paint is quite swirled up close.

 

i dont get time to do the cars often, a few weeks back i spent 3 hours on a sat washing/srp/and turtlewax waxing the cmax, then on the sunday spent another 3 hours doing the same to my puma.

they both looked fucking mint for a couple of weeks till i washed them again, and they looked very shit and dull due to all the now visble swirl marks

i just wash them nnow. think they could both do with a mop, but i dont have a mop lol

 

That was my point fudgey, mine looked mint polished up and then just looked shit again once washed, its like when you buy a new item of clothing, feels fresh, smooth comfy wash it and it goes out of a bit out of shape looks different feels different..

I didnt have time to do the whole car but i basically just did the passenger side wing, door, quarter and the roof rail bit and pillars, washed, dried, clayed, washed, dried, resin polished, buffed that off, and then used dodo juice purple haze wax and it looks mint and pretty swirl free compared to the other side, ive bought a proper drying towel and megs shampoo, and just going to see what happens next time i wash it, if it goes back to looking shit again ill either get it mopped, or just give up and leave it, its pretty mint as it is, but im very picky, its either gotta be perfect or near as, or nothing, i know its a 10 year old car but still, winter is coming and i know it being my daily and also the fact ive lowered it too much its going to get proper caked in crap !

 

the swirls come due to the washing process. especially if using a sponge as it traps grit between the sponge and paint and you then mark the paint. srp and black hole are awful for the amount of baulking chalk.they do this to help hide swirls but once washed its back.
thats why you should do a proper job(even if you do stages over a week) and compound the car to remove the swirls. the protect it and use the correct process to wash and they shouldnt come back.

 

I dont use a sponge ive got one of those wash mitts, bright orange thing with loads of what i can only describe as tassles about an inch long all over it, funky looking thing, looks like someones got a mop and cut it short basically. lol

 

I agree with there being an art to black cars (which I hane't mastered yet), is there a polish/other product that will remove swirls and light scratches without a machine? (Can't currently afford to buy one). I've been using srp cause I've heard a lot of good about it, but now, I'm not so sure, it does give a pretty decent shine though. Also, remember to use plenty of lube with the clay car, I think I've done the mistake of not using enough and not having the clay prepared enough, which is where I think a lot of my scratches are from. Thank god christmas is coming, I'll try and convince the parents to supply me with a machine polisher.

 

you cant really cock up the claying process proper soak the panel, so the clay glides along, if it catches or skids on the bodywork then youve not soaked the panel enough. there is a considerable difference in the 2 sides of my car now, just a lot going on at the moment but will sort out pictures at the weekend.

i only get 1/2 lunch too, so was thinking about taking some carwash stuff into work and say washing, claying, polishing and waxing a panel at a time. but i doubt ill get just that done in 1/2 hour and eat something lol

i have some meguires scratch x which seems pretty good at getting rid of swirl marks etc, so might try and go over the cars with that.

i really need some DECENT wheel cleaner tho as all the brake dust has stuck to the wheels and i cant get it off, RSMAT did suggest some acid x or something, but i cant find it for sale anywhere?

no lol, it just removes the orangey, rust coloured ground in brake dust, then jus t cut and polish them, mine came up ok, u can buy this cheap alloy silver paint and i just masked off the good areas and dusted over the shit areas with that paint, looked ok.

 

I honestly dont know where im going wrong with my car, the only thing i dont do is use a grit guard. Maybe my yr old wash mitt needs replacing?? I do rinse it out each time. Should i be machine washing it?
Yesterday i meguiars 3 staged the car. Step 1 is v hard work to take off. I finished off with n tex generation 2 wax and even tho i was using new applicator pad and clean microfibre scratches on the bootlid were still everywhere when looked at under the garage light. Does feel amazing to touch mind u and v shiney, but as said the scratches on the flat boot lid are driving me mental.

 

Little bit of a update, the weathers been pretty poor, raining and i think they even salted the roads round here when it got really cold the other night ( i live out in the sticks ) and the car is filthy, but the one panel, passenger wing, which i washed, dried, clayed, washed, dried, resin polished and then dodo waxed still looks gleaming albeit a few specs of mud.. the rest of the car is filthy.. weird how someone said once u wax it the dirt just falls off, true though !
