They're very good cars.

The only "complete" car to come out of the BMW/Rover tie up (the 75/ZT) and it was excellent.

The swift disappearance of MG Rover hit prices hard, although the ZT260's still fetch relatively strong money.

For the cash they're a great car and there really is no "catch". To be fair, a similarly-aged Mondeo ST220 doesn't cost all that much more in realisty, so for a 7-9 year old V6 sporting saloon the price isn't really that stupidly low, but it still represents a lot of car for the money.

As already mentioned they are very good cars, I'd rather have one than a Mondeo estate thats for sure but check the boot space as it's not that great and that's where the Mondeo may score higher.

All big petrol engines cars of that size are worth next to nothing. A lot of car for the money if you can stomach the running costs.

There is one main reason why they are so cheap.... The head gaskets blow on them approximately every 30 thousand miles, I suggest if you buy one that you get a pressure test done. Obviously look for the milky residue under the oil cap and check that the heater works (also a sign if it doesnt). At a garage you are looking at about Ł500 to fix this.
Other than what I have already mentioned the electrics are shocking on them, they have a habit of the airbag light coming on due to crap connections under the drivers seat and generally they are quite thirsty.

Honest opinion is to steer clear, I had a friend buy one, he kept it 7 months and had to spend over Ł1500 in repairs. The car seemed fine when it was bought.
Cats go on them quite frequently as well.

Head gasket going on the v6 is a load of bollocks. The thermostat housing can crack and often make it appear like head gasket failure.

I've had mine as a runabout for nearly 2 years and for the money i can't fault it. Mine gets a lot of abuse too.

Never known of a head gasket on a kv6 but make sure the cambelts have been done or account for it in the price.
They are a cunt of a job to do have been told it's a two day job on them.

I've heard of thermostat problems and the belts being a bit of a pain, but not head gasket problems on the V6. A lot of car for the money really, probably partly down to all the fear around Rover disappearing. Most of the MG models seemed to be hurt by that.

Worth a look, but as said above, with ST220 prices dropping, if I wanted a big, fast saloon car in that category, I'd probably try for one of those instead myself.

That advice would be correct IF we were talking about the 1.8 4 pot version but the 75 & ZT 2.5 KV6 does not suffer with this, the early KV6 as fitted to the late Rover 800 series did have a few issues but these were resolved for the newer car.

Timing belts can take a while if you haven't done them before, I dropped the engine and subframe on our old car and had the job done in about 5 hrs.
