Default Really need to get the mrs a car (Advice)

Really like this milage puts me of tho http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2708172048...#ht_1665wt_922
iPad won't let me put link up Our budget is really only £2000 unless I sold the saph then I'd be looking to get her an Audi or something nice
Keep trying to talk her into letting spend the 2k on the saph and she can just use that daily that way we'd only have 1 tax insurance mot servicing etc but she won't have it :-(

I wouldn't worry about mileage, modern diesels are made to last if serviced correctly. I wouldn't class 130k as mega miles, infact it's just run in!

Reading through the ebay ad, that Focus sounds like a good bet for the money

I really do like It but it's on original clutch/flywheel alternator turbo fuel pump etc should this be of concern

I do like the astra's but only the new ones and they are over budget :-(

Not really, motorway miles don't really add much wear to clutches and the other items are just a lottery IMO. My old man's passat TDi has covered 289k and the only thing that has been replaced is the alternator. He's owned the car from new so can confirm this. He also ran mk2 mondeo TD's to around 400k and to my knowledge, never had to spend any serious money on them.

In the advert the guy sounds really anal about the car which is good! Also I doubt he would have spent money on wheels etc if it was a nail. All in my opinion of course!

Focus does look very good I must say,but £2300 is strong, plus they do suffer from pump/injector issues also, not in such abundance as the 2.0 l tdci mondeos but it still happens.
Vw or Audi a4 etc would be a fine choice, shouldn't be too silly on price, they really do go on forever in fairness.
Avoid renault, rubbish, pug dervs are good but sadly not much jap about for that price in diesel flavour or that would be where I'd be looking.

£2000 would probably buy it I reckon which ain't too bad when you consider the little extras

Great price that passat,166k would barely register on that.
I had the worlds most abused passat tdi on an r plate with 180 odd k on it and it still drove as new, very quick too, chipped up to say 140bhp,used to wheelspin everywhere!!!

Dude, seriously, the old man's passat looks and drives like a 60k car at 289k!

I'm not saying every high mileage car will be good but there's no guarantee a low mileage one will either. It's all about how it's been looked after

get her a renault scenic
you dont have to drive it and when you need to move something big you will be glad you did, our 1.6 gets over 40mpg constantly

just my tupence, best to have kids mind

if you want cheap to run get a ford fusion, incredible mpg on a 1400tdi and big enough to live with day to day

Cheers for help advice guys needs to be big as I have a little boy and 2 dogs but not really a Renault fan tbh and the reason I'm put of high milage motors is due to our 56k yes that's right 56k 04 reg Vectra estate had 3 alternators and the clutch was on it's way out plus a few other things so we had to basically give the thing away :-( after just putting a new alternator and 2 new tyres exhaust and moting it with full history too :-(

That's because it was a Vectra lol! You have just proved my case with low and high mileage cars.

I'm aware of the pump/injectors problems on the 2.0 TDCI mate. I didn't think the 1.8 TDCI in the focus suffered so badly? The 2.0 TDDI in the mondeo was also less troublesome IRRC.

This is why I'm trying to steer him in the VAG direction! The 1.9 TDi is not immune from problems but does seem to last the distance better than most when looked after

In the fleet of vans i have at work there are some tranny connects with the 1.8 diesels engines and.we have a few normal tranny.

Both are good engines. We have a tranny engine with over 200 k miles on it and its still going strong.In.the 3 years ive worked there we have only ever changed 1 transit engine and 1 transit connect engine.

Bought my Mrs an Audi A4 SLine with the 130pd engine. Has now done 124k and does literally drive like new.

I would deffo by another, anything with the VAG 130pd engine I would say you cant really go wrong.
