what is prrof of ownership

i just got the log book for my new fiesta and in big letters it states that this is no proof

only docs i have or car is log book and insurance, o and an invoice

how would i proof its my car

 

technically its not, its the property of the DVLA, you just have to tax and insure it.
its a fucking stupid cunt of an idea. all but 2 of our vehicles have logbooks like that

The purchase invoice is your proof of ownership, you state you have this.

 

As above, your receipt from purchase is your proof. It's to stop this claiming cars by requesting a log book as when you do this they are making you aware you are not the legal owner, just registered keeper!

My ex girlfriend thought the logbook was proof of ownership when I dumped her years ago and tried to keep a car i'd bought for her to run around in. She had the logbook

I know shops that still do hand written receipts

 

then that hand written receipt is your proof you own the car. assuming the previous seller was the legitimate owner off course.
v5's have always had that statement as far as i can remember.

 

If worded correctly, signed and dated a written invoice is just as good as pre-printed typed/printed one.

As others have said, V5 doesn't prove you own the vehicle, although in most cases the owner and registered keeper are one and the same.

You're getting confused with the registration number belonging to DVLA not the vehicle.

Possession is still 9/10ths of the law!!!

And before anyone gets on their high-horse, an invoice is the ONLY thing that confers good title to anything.
The 9/10ths thing is just an old expression and is relevant if you have the invoice but can't find the car!
