Default pinto vs zetec

you mightve seen my thread about my engineering project next year, and ive decided that im going to be rebuilding and modifying an engine.

I was going to build a pinto up with fast road cam, twin carb etc because they can take all kinds of abuse and are alot more simple than newer engines...
But ive looked at the bang-for-buck and it seems you get more for your money when you build a zetec

what are the pro's and cons of each engine? and just out of curiousity can someone spec me a 250-300hp zetec turbo yet still being bullet proof (if theres such thing) and the rough cost of it all?
also what hp can you get from tuning an st170 engine yet keeping it n/a?

These day's your better off with a zetec, pinto's are fetching silly money (although they are still very tunable, at a cost), wheras a zetc is penuts compared to them. If you really wanted to, I reckon an ST170 n/a could push out 250+bhp but it would be a full on competition engine (with a pricetag to match), keeping it simple I reckon 210-220bhp should be possible. As for 250-300bhp zetec turbo, look for the zetec turbo on the cheap thread cause their loads of info in that thread, hang on I'll find it for you if you want. Have you though about an XE redtop? A bit more expensive than a zetec but people say its easier to tune.
