Larger displacement of the same engine shoulden't be to hard, i.e. the 1.4 or the 1.6, I would personally go for the latter, as your current engine and the 1.4 do in fact have the same power output, although the 1.4 does have more potential in it.

The 1.6 is the engine which is fitted to the "Zetec-S" sporty Fiesta offering, and is also in the Focus, Cmax etc.

You probably need to change the ECU though, as the mapping will be different.

Hi guys

I was reading this old topic about going from 1.25 fiesta to 1.4 .

I wanted to know if this worked??? because im doing the same, but the ford dealer told me that i might have some issues with the car key,he will not reconize the 1.4 ecu and the car may not start.

Did you have any problem doin this? i got a ford fiesta mk6 2003. the 1.4 mk6 engine i wanted to buy looks the same,(same plugs etc)

i'll really aprecciate your help!!

Thanks

It will recognize the key providing you keep the same ECU.

But personally, don't bother, as a point of trivia the 1.25 is as powerful as the 1.4, the latter was more powerful but was de-tuned for emissions purposes.

They are indeed the same engine, that being the Zetec SE, just larger in displacement, as is the 1600 engine fitted to the Zetec S and Focus etc.

It will be cheaper and easier to buy something more powerful outright.

Hi guys,

Ive got a mk6 fiesta 1.4 black and the engine has seized so im looking to put the 1.6 zetec s engine in there. I don't know how to make a new thread so I though id ask on here as its a similar topic.

What I need to know is if the engine will fit straight on to the 1.4 gearbox and whether the gearbox can handle the power etc

Does anything else have to be changed? i.e driveshafts etc? I know the brakes and suspension has to be changed and the ecu but Im not sure if the block will fit onto the gearbox..

thanks

The engines are the same, and so is the box.

You may be ok with the suspension, I mean there is mininal weight difference between the two, although the brakes might be a good idea as you will have more power.

Hi, I've been reading this thread. I have a 1.4 flame. If I was to do a conversion to a 1.6 am I right in thinking the block is the same? If so is stroke or bore that's different?

How easy is it to convert a 1.4 to a 1.6?

Default Ford fiesta

I have a 1.25 and I want to put a 1.6 zetec engine in. Will it be as simple as just changing the engine over? Or will i have to change the ecu or any other things like that?
Thanks

You would need a remap or the ECU, as the mapping will be completely different.
