Default 4x4 conversions - registration? insurance?

how does everyone on here handle the registration side of the all the 4x4 focus's, escort's, and pretty much everything else now with a cossie floorpan, on here? there are more modified monoques in the project and restorations section than fwd's but the puzzeling thing is they're all retaining their origional number plates and identity. i'm currently building a rwd mk3 astra using lots of cossie bits, and as far as i can find as soon as you start chopping floor pans its instantly destined for a IVA test and a Q-plate. is it just a case of everyone on here just not declairing/registrating/insuring the conversions?

no under cover cop sting, just interested as i dont want mine to be on a Q-plate

as said keep it hush, engine change on v5 and usual Mot jobby.

however, like it or not thats not the legal way to do it and eventually they will shut the door and make the system more strict like they did with kit cars. I imagine for older cars they wont be able to proove when the work was done so there might be a cut off date when they are finally bothered to sort it out.
