Grinding Noise
I've got a Mk3 Mondeo 2.0 petrol. When driving it sounds like there is a grinding scraping noise from the engine bay. It disappears when you depress the clutch.
To be honest the clutch slips if you give it some revs and try and make a quick getaway. Will the noise be something to do with this or will it be the gearbox or something?

Just googled and yes you are right it has a DMF. It's not knocking and clunking so I think it's ok.
Probably the clutch release bearing. I'm just running it into the ground to be honest. I was given the car for free so I just service it every year and when it dies it dies. I am just curious what the noise was

If it helps at all, I had this very same scenario with my 2.0 tdci mondy, Just this weekend I put a new clutch and flywheel in and the noise has gone.
My thrust bearing and DMF were both shagged, so unfortunately I can't tell you which was causing the noise. But if you're going in there anyway, see if you can track down a DMF testing tool to see if it's bust. But to be honest you can sort of tell from the way it wobbles wether it's worth replacing.
Clutch, Flywheel and Thrust bearing for me set me back Ł520, not cheap!
