octane fuel.. mpg etc. on 2.0 models
Hi everyone, I've got a year 2000 model focus, with the 2.0 zetec engine..
A couple of days ago I started testing using higher octane gas on it (usually I use 95, but since I'll be slapping on a turbo in the following months, I figured I might as well start using the higher octane now, and see how the car feels using it)
I started out with almost emptying the tank, and I used 98 octane BP fuel.
I really liked it, the car felt a bit more responsive, had better cold idling (usually idles a bit rough while cold).
Then I decided to try Shell V-Power 99 octane gas, so I again almost emptied the tank. I'd been talking to a guy who works for Shell in iceland and (of course) he said that v-power was *the* shit.. he runs it on his porsche 911, he said it had lots of addatives that were good for your engine and it should yield more responsiveness, and more power, blablabla, if you use it you'll find a pot of gold under your seat
My experience with 99 octane gas has been pretty poor, the car idles rough, and feels less responsive than with either 95 or 98 octane.
I was just wondering if this was normal, if anyone here has ran their 2.0 (mostly stock) focus on this sort of fuel?
Though notable, my MPG got better with the higher octane fuels, but not to the point where its more economical for me to use them, just about the same.
