I mean in comparrison to say a normal 1.6.

For a 1.4 petrol its fairly powerful with 90bhp and 96lbs/ft torque

no, it's worse, as the Golf weighs about the same as a small supertanker.

thats about the norm these days,

1.4 in a golf, painful

Dam, Work have offered me one as my next company car or a Seat Ibiza 1.9tdi FR 130bhp 6 speed.
I prefer the look of the Golf though.

Take the Ibiza or you'll be subjected to piss taking for as long as you have it. The 1.6 is dreadfully underpowered so bugger only knows how bad a 1.4 is

if that has the same engine as the skoda fabia VRS go for it
