Default great news on the new car!

hi all,

just recieved this e/mail from ANDY ROUSE comfurming some more of the sierra rs500 history.

Hi Martin,

The French car you have has a good history, it was built in 1987 for the World championship but because we had funding for only one car it wan't used. However it was run by us in the Spa 24 hours and finished in fourth or fifth place, driven by Semoulan and Pajera.

It then went to Bathurst that year, which was part of the World championship, and was entered by Alan Moffit in ANZ Bank colours. It started the race from pole position, and I have a picture of it leading into the first corner. I drove at the start and led for the first 30 mins until the gearbox gave up. At that time we did not have the heavy duty Getrag gearbox for the more powerful RS500 engine because the homologation had not go through.

That car was then used for the French series in 1988 driven by Alain Ferte and me and we just missed winning the series outright but won our class.

The wheel rims were the right ones and the repair job to the ICS car is almost finished.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Andy

you know whot this means!! ANZ COLOURS!

MARTIN.

hi all,

thats the 88 ANZ colours,

my own is the 87 ANZ car and very simular, same anz on the front and sides just different other stuff,

i have phots in books ect so want be a problem to make it up the same,

if anyone has a copy of the bathurst 87 race its in there at the front and lead for 30 minutes untill rouse lost the gearbox,

at that point they could only use the standard T5 box as the stronger gatrac box was homologated yet,

Martin

given its Bathurst provenance it has to go back to 87 spec including swapping back to RHD ( but keep the mechanical updates) as that car would then be an equal to your others

interesting info,

from ALLAN MOFFAT australian web site, injoy,

During the first half of 1987 it became apparent that the new breed of turbo-charged and multi-valved cars were outpacing the normally aspirated V8s.

Allan had originally entered the Commodore for Bathurst to share with John Harvey. But this was withdrawn after he signed to co-drive with Andy Rouse and Thierry Tassin in Rouse’s Cosworth Sierra.

The Sierra RS Cosworth was the ultimate of many race homologations of the Ford Sierra being sold in the UK.

Bathurst 1000 - 1987; Rouse and his crew of six arrive at Bathurst with a mountain of gear and the car that had done the Spa 24-Hours. They also brought out two spare engines, two spare gearboxes, two spare diffs and 40 wheels and tyres.

Rouse put the car second on the grid to Klaus Ludwig’s Eggenberger Sierra.

Rumours were already surrounding the Eggenberger cars. Comparisons of their front guards to those of the Australian built Dick Johnson Racing Sierras were being made.

Race day; Rouse made a great start, taking the early lead, before being caught up in a dice with Soper and Miedecke, also in Sierras. On lap 31 they were out of the race with a broken gearbox.

Calder - 500 km WTCC - October; the race was to be run around a combination f the road circuit and the NASCAR oval.

After some first corner chaos at the start of the race, Tassin was tailing Soper when the Sierra blew a head gasket. Once again Allan was denied race time in the car. It was a disappointing end to what had been a frustrating deal for Allan.

wow that goes to show how much effert rouse made to win in the good old days,

must have cost a few ŁŁŁŁŁŁ to take all that stuff to au and back,
