Hi all,

Could someone recomend a clear wax that I could put over the top of the new paint on the underside of my car.

The car has had por15, primer and two coats of smoothrite. I would like to coat the smoothrite in something that repelled water and made cleaning easier.
I dont want to put another layer of waxoyl or something over the top, as I want to be able to get whatever I use off completely every couple of years for a re-paint.

For the underside... Go on eBay and look at Harly wax... 100% carnuba get that on the underside with plenty of coats and that will do the trick mate .

 

I'd go for something like Collonite 476s
Lasts 6+ months on the top of cars, so should be find for the underneath
Go for 3/4 coats applied 24 hours apart

Would they be ok to use after a polish (?) on the new paint on the top (the outside is getting primed and then two coats of ford diamond or frozen white) ?

 

Yes mate perfectly fine after a good polish...

 

Could you not get some clear coat on there and then some wax? my mk1 was painted white underneath i just jacked it up now and then and cleaned it up with some srp

 

I would be wary of putting anything on top of the smoothrite now, as It seems to react to other paints (it went all bubbly once when I sprayed over some with a rattle can of something else).
A couple of coats of something clear to protect it would be cool, but given the easy life it will have now I imagine the wax coats should do it.
I have just ordered a tin of that harly wax.

what would be a good polish for the new paint (on the top of the car) to go on before the harly wax?

As far as polishing goes you need to machine polish for the best finish the 3m range or menzerna polishes are very good via machine then wax

 

Try this for the underside. Its easy to apply as its like wall paper paste, dries well and lasts ages. It was apparently designed originally to protect power lines. Ive used it on alloys in the past and it sees off brake dust for months and months.
