Looking for some bits for my cvh for when I get the pistons skimmed.
Is there any particular reason why a full 11 piece engine gasket set from my local motor factors is £40 and 1 cometic head gasket is £116?!?!

I ordered 4 full sets inc head gasket , the head gasket is exactly the same as O.E ford but at a fraction of the price . it has th efire rings where alot dont, you can not go wrong with O.E head gaskets for the CVH, all the big power cars have them and heard alot of the MLS gaskets can fail if the head/bloack is not 100% true
I also bought some payen head bolts off him dirt cheap , but they will be the same as ford
Very good company IMO

Why do you need to lower the compression ratio? I wouldn't on the next engine i build.
There are people with over 300brake and a standard ish compression ratio.
PS, my pistons were skimmed, standard mahle. But as above, i wouldn't again. But i would definitely use ford gaskets ALL the way through.

Rob,
Who's your tuner mate?
For instance Karlos G above is running standard compression plus some more as his block and head were skimmed, and i was running 17psi with standard compression before the rebuild.

The weird thing is it was running about 17psi making around 165bhp. Then I had to wind it down a bit as the clutch was no good. Got an uprated clutch fitted and now the car just won't get anywhere near the figure it did before. Nothing else has been changed.

I am MFI still. Not to sure on the specifics as this was the first time I had just dropped the car off rather than just stay with it.
Anything else that could cause it? I remember he said there is plenty of fuel pressure so I Guess it wouldn't be running lean.

Det is normally caused by either not enough fuel and/or too much advance.
Perhaps the MAP sensor in the ECU is dead, quite common these days, not pulling the timing back as it should when boost increases, try another ECU before you go stripping the engine!! lol
You say anything over 12 degrees and it dets, is that static timing? If it is then it should be pulled back to around 8-10 degrees anyway, you cant run much boost at 12 degree's let alone more advanced than that.

Sorry I meant to say 8degree's before tdc. Dont know where I got the number 12 from?! The engine is coming to bits to have a new cam fitted anyway. I think 120,000 miles on one cam (as far as I know its not been changed) is pushing it a bit.

Yeah, its only just started to get a little bit noisy as well!
I'm gonna have a word with my tuner and see if we can give it a quick run with another ECU. I'm sure I have a friend that will let me borrow his. Just to eliminate that.

Mine made 155 @ 10psi so 17 should have you in the 180 - 190 mark surely, what cooler you running ? Does it hold back when you floor it ? I've got no receipts for a cam and I'm on 142k and still going strong.

) 17psi it was 181bhp. But the clutch was having none of it so we knocked it down to 165bhp. Which lasted a few week's until the clutch got on its last legs.I have an airtec front mount.
