Default HIDs

Anyone got them fitted?

I want to get a set, but im abit confused by the H4 Hi&Low Beam thing, do the Dual H4 Hi/Low beam kits really work? Also are they easy to wire in?

Any pics etc... Cheers!

I thought HID's are illegal unless the come on the cars from the factory? Because of the higher intensity it messes up the beam pattern?! hence MOT problems.

worms and cans spring to mind here

find out what kits have been fitted by people and see how they shine before you fork out for stuff

on most they will ALWAYS require an additional bit of loom to power them up as the initial current draw can overload the standard circuitry

HID Kits are not the problem for MOT's its the colour that you choose that is.
I have the hi/low beam kit on my VW T5 Transporter they are basicly 1 bulb on a motorised fitting that when the high beam is activated the bulb is pulled back slightly to lift the beam pattern, have made the world of difference to night driving and also still work with the electric height adjustment.

I have a hid kit on my s2, I think it's a virtual daylight one, 100% improvement on standard and never had any grief off police, not been in for mot with them in yet but can unplug them and put standard bulbs back in if need be

they are 6000k h4-3. the 1000k code is the colour but the h4-3 is the bulb type.

1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory.

2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp.

Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal.
Basically you need everything above to make it a legit MOT'able installation.
