Depends where the noise is coming from, the lever cup can get dry if well used and grate a bit, but certainly NO noise should be heard from inside the box itself..

I assumed you meant in the car engine running etc, that noise is 100% normal, just it's not heard with the layers of rubber gaitor and leather gaitor on the car in use.
