Before anyone asks, I am NOT selling one! Just wondered what sort of money they fetch? As a mate bought one and it cost him a good few hundred quid, seems a bit steep? Any Puma people in?

ebay is full of them for 400 quid, but i recently did a bit of ringing round and could get one for as little as £200 and see it running in the car before buying.

Would rather that than chance ebay lol!

they are expensive because of their relative rarity and lack of bottom end spares so a good unit is worth good money.

i got one other week off ebay for £150 with box loom ecu etc...
i have seen them for over £700 for engine only tho
not a well built engine imo tho ive had to rebuild a few over the years you cant even use a stone cutter on the bores as the rings are that flimsy they cant bed into a roughened surface!

your just as better off getting a cheap 1.7 puma and selling off the bits.. 1.7 pumas are similar prices to a zetec s and the parts are rarer so sell for more compared to the zetec s which is mostly mk5 fiesta parts which are common as muck.

Thats because they are NOT designed to be rebuilt. The 1.7 zetec SE is specifically designed as a throw away engine. Ford did not offer you rebuild parts for a bottom end, only a complete short bottom end.

its only through the likes of shawspeed and owen developments etc that rebuild parts have been sourced through their own extensive research as well as modification of super 1600 rebuild parts to get enough bits to rebuild the engines.

of course not forgetting the 1.7's have a nikasil lining of the bore so any bore honing or cutting will destroy that.

I always thought they were desposible engines.

My fiesta only got one as I demolished the 1.6 , used to use more oil than fuel

You could probably pick up a 2.0 silver or.blacktop lump for cheaper and would go better there is really not much difference in the two the money you spend on buying the engine few.tweak to the zetec you be same or more also, I would.not advise getting one from fiesta already because some people forget and use standard boxes and not puma ones which is a main reason why there better because they have much better acceleration. Due to the ratios. Personally I would go 2.0 blacktop. And a rs turbo LSD box.
