Default Advice on Mk2 Escort Spring Rate's?

Alright troops, I have a braw wee Mk2 Estate that I'm in the final stages of rebuilding. No plans on going mad with it, it's still a 1300 4sp and is more of a summer cruiser for the time being.
I plan to drop it an inch and a half at the back and two at the front, and I want it firmed up a wee bit from standard, but I still want a smoothish ride if you know what I mean.

My prob is that this is the first escort I've had and there are loads of spring rate's available: 145, 160, 175, 180, 190, 200, and 220 Lbs.
I read that standard springs run from 80 Lbs on a base model to about 135 Lbs on a Mexico but not sure if this is correct? If so then maybe around the 160 Lbs would suit me? God knows!

Any advice or input would be well appreciated.

Cheers,

Phin

I had 145lb on my mk2, single leaf, bought from Peter Lloyd rallying, can't remember the front rate, sorry.
These were used with spax dampers all round, was great, but of course tail happy in true mk2 fashion!!
It was defo comfy though, did many many miles in it, was a 1760 auto, with 1300 torque converter, fast and good mpg.

145lb on the front will do a perfect job, firm and comfy, thats what ive been rolling with for the last 3 years, bought mine from burton, £20 each, around the 200lb is recommended for pintos and heavier engines i think. my sig pic is with those springs on.

Thanks for the feedback guys, 145 Lbs sounds like the way to go then, and right enough at 15-20 quid a spring they don't really break the bank so I can always upgrade again if needs dictate down the line.

If you're interested here's a wee pic of it at standard height, all the glass and chrome is back on now, but still a bit to do.

Any more feedback appreciated.

Cheers,

Phin
