As we all seem to be using laptops/netbooks and ipads at home now its been suggested to me that it wouldd be a good idea to use a media server connected to my wireless router to hold all the pictures/music etc..
Now my computer knowledge is on a par with a banana so can anyone advise me on a reasonable one for home use please?

do a google for a NAS (network attached storage) device.
They can be quite dear and sometimes the cheaper ones dont come with hard drives.

Something like this gets good reviews and you could use usb external HDD's - (You can get them cheaper than this price though if you look about / wait for an offer)

Leave it on 24/7, low power, quiet etc etc, can be a dedicated media center left connected to you TV, and also used to set up network shares etc etc

Ok so that Pogoplug looks like the sort of thing I'm after, going to have to do a bit more research on this I think, its quite involved for my lack of pc skills

 

i have a QNAP TS101 and a Buffalo Linkstation and they are both brilliant for home use. can't fault them.
