im looking on purchasing a new transit soon but would like to know how people find the new mondels on fuel? ideally id like a rwd mwb and poss a 330 model which seem quite rare? andone know what mpg the swb 2.2 does? the rwd 2.4 lwb? and what they're like to drive compared to the mk6 transit? cheers
Ive got a 57 plate 280 85
It is the glx with all the toys and its loads better than the earlier model ones to drive.
I usually get about 35-38 mpg with mine but we carry a pressure washer, Carpet machine and generator with us all the time plus a load of chemicals too, so its always loaded.
Ours has loads of power for everyday use , the only thing it feels underpowered with is the trailer if its loaded with a heavy car , but then I will be taking my time anyways.
Buy one you wont be disappointed

I had a 10 plate, rwd, lwb, high top, 100ps and was getting about 400 miles to a tank.
I've got the same but a 115 now (which is 6 speed) and I'm getting about 450 miles to a tank.
I'd deffinately reccomend the 6 speed, especially if you do any motorway work, the 5 speed is screaming it's nuts off at 'white van man' speed.
The MK7's are quite a nice place to be inside, certainly much nicer than the previous models.

I would disagree with the above, as having driven, and bought a variety of transits, i am the happiest with my current 52 plate 125 tdci t280 fwd transit. I had an 07 115 t330 swb rwd from new with a 70 mph limiter, and it was poor on fuel, i had an 02 125 t330 swb rwd, and got 400 miles to a tank, and the 75/85 ps fwd are ok, but lack the grunt when loaded for motorway work.
A lot of people in the trade who deal with transits say the mk7 are worse on fuel then the old mk6 shape, and cost more to fix aswell.

if you look on the autotrader van websites they can give the economy of the vans your looking at
i have a new shape 2.2 tdci transit and its a nice thing and better looking than the earlier shape ones

Its not as you have to change the inner wings etc. but it can be done. My van is a 52 plate 125 tdci t280, and i dont think the newer vans will be much better tbh, so i thought i would spend say £500 making mine look like a mk7, than spending a few more grand actually buying one with the same power engine.
