Slightly warped discs and maybe a combination of that and worn bottom ball joints.
Also check the steering coupling if its a rubber one as although that wont be a cause it can make them feel odd when their worn.

....no, discs are fine only down 2000miles...i changed the wheel studs for longer ones so best do a retighten!!!!!!!!!!!! Didnt do it before that or on the std brakes

What pads you running?
Some leave a deposit on the disks (DS2500's for example) during "normal" use that can cause this.
soloution can be a very hard brake from a high speed to standstill as this will burn off any deposits on the disks.

mine did this but didnt feel too bad as the worn steering coupling bush must have taken the worst away but after changing the bush it got far worse.. just brought new rotors to fit so hopefully will cure the problem.. ive managed to end up with warped disks on a car with 20 miles on the clock.. golf gt luckily not mine tho..
