Default Insurance fronting?

Anybody got the details of this as I have a chap adament it is perfectly legal to have the car in his name but him have his mum insure it and him to then be a named driver despite his mum never setting foot in the car. Tried a freindly approach of saying that he shouldn't do it but his mums an instructer and says otherwise. If I'm wrong I'll wind my neck in and apologise.

Cheers in advance

its possible i suppose but naughty.. if you love your wheels and want a pay out if the worst happens i wouldn't want to insure it this way.. depends what car it is i suppose, if your 71yr old mother has a rs500 and your the named driver at 26 it looks obvious whats going on but i bet the insurer thinks fuck em, we ain't paying out so we ain't lost nowt.
Having said this i'm 36 and the misses 42, when i was 26 she insured my cars as it was cheaper, they where registered in her name though. nowadays it makes no difference.

Adding my mum as a named driver makes my insurance cheaper, infact, its the same for her husband. I add her, just so shes covered if she wants to drive

He isn't talking about that, he is saying he wants to dishonestly obtain services by providing information which is not accurate.

He wants to tell his insurer his mum is the MAIN driver of the vehicle, however this is not the case...

It is, in principal, illegal. That said, it would be down to the insurance company to prove it!

You are correct, his wrong! The "Main Driver" should be as the name suggests, putting someone elses name and then having the named driver permantly using the car is insurance fraud, of course as a named driver you are perfectly entitled to drive the car but if it could be proved the named driver were driving it all the time and the main driver has never driven it the car then you would be in trouble!

Insurance companies should be asking his mum at the time of the quote are you the registered owner and keeper of the vehicle??

Which of course she is not

It is illegal and I def would not advise it xx

Many years ago when i was 18, a friend did the same.
Escort was in his name, insurance was in his dads. he crashed it, took out a lamp post. passenger still has a titanium pin in his leg.
The insurance refused to pay out as the car was in his name and insurance was in his dads.
Would defiantly say that he needs to get the car registered in the name of the the person Insuring it.

Definately illegal, but the odds of getting caught are slim.

As per RickyLee's suggestion though, adding your mum as a named driver in case she wants to drive the car when you are a youngster will bring your insurance down, I found this out by accident when I was a teenager and borrowed my mums car for the weekend and added her to my insurance just in case she needed to use mine, when I found out how much extra it would be to add her, they sent me a cheque for a partial refund.
Thats perfectly legal as his mum only needs to take the car down the shops once during the year for her to need to be insured on it, so no chance of them proving any sort of scam going on here.
Doesnt make the same savings that the sort of blatant insurance fraud you are talking about does though of course.
