DOHC engines are not very tuneable, How old is it Up to 89 pinto engines are used after that dohc, Pinto engines are far better.

remove the twin cam and fit a pinto then the options are endless! i've built my 2.1 pinto inc twin 40's for under 500 quid and that should be good (hopefully) for 140 - 150bhp when it's all set up and running in the kit car (figures are based on what others have got from running the same set up as me, i wait to see the real figures)

i´m not so good at wrightin english, so i hope you understand.. here goes.

It´s not right that you can´t tune at DOHC engine. infact you can youse the std pistons up till 200bhp when it´s NA tuning we are talking about. you need

komp raised up till 11:1

300 degrees cams and mekanikle valve lifters.

trottelbodyes

full programmelble ECU.

and a tubemanifold( i have an janspeed on my sierra GT from 92)

all af these things shoud give abaut 200 bhp and a big amount af tourqe.

i´m trying to bild a 160 bhp engine right now. with std ECU there are chipped.

but hope you understand. but you can get i in an danish version if you want

The DOHC (I4) you can tune but not to the degree or as easily as the Pinto, in FI guise the I4 is 125HP, also the Pinto is belt driven, the DOHC is chain driven.

I think some do a Galaxy/Scorpio mod to them and fit the 16V head.

Could you get me a link to the janspeed manifold? I couldnt find one the time i looked up. Also could you give me a link to the throttle bodies? I cant find any that fit the dohc, and can you run the throttle bodies without management? And what way did you raise the compression? Sorry for all these questions lol

Iirc a rs2000 i4 engine is a bolt in swap, sure I read somewhere there the same engine block as the dohc engines in the sierras, if that's the case 150ish brake straight out the box! Might have some trouble with the intake manifold if using the escort one as it would point towards the bulkhead!

Blocks are very similar, IIRC you just need to redrill the dipstick hole to suit it in a RWD car.

6years later..

lol.

carbs and manifold for it you have to build.

janspeed dont make the manifold anymore.

look for ashley.

i made a head with regrind cams (272degree and 11,65mmlift) it made 150hp and 198nm

that were with std inlet manifold. just portet to match the head. the blok had 250000km behind it.

lol, you have to design a manifold to suit the carbs?

i was thinking they didnt make it, i found the ashley one but i prefer janspeed lol ill settle for the ashley.

150hp isnt bad on 250000km lol

yeps. the tuning stopped at the OHC (pinto) and then no one tuned the DOHC, and then its just easy to say it cant be done. buy a cosworth or a pinto.

go to the sierra owners club and find some serius dohc tuning people.

but yes. mutch are DIY tuningparts four a dohc.

2,0 16V are waste of time. buy a scorpio 2,3 16V and fit the engine in your sierra.

all info are on the sierra owners forum.
