My dad is in the RFA (and i haven't mispelt it, it's the Royal Fleet Auxiliary) and has served around the Gulf on several occasions.
At times like these, people in all the services and their families feel affected
My thoughts will be with the families and friends

Im in the RAF aswell,so now you probably think im not the spotty little geeky teenager you thought i was and yes it does go through your mind!
please have some respect that the fact we have joined up to serve our country and that we have to take more risks than others, the fact we get sent out of area to places like iraq, we kinda have no choice unless we volunteer, ive put in my paper work to go out of area and basically i cant wait, of hearing this shit news it hasnt put me off of withdrawing my paper work, call me stupid but hey, someone go to do it
but then i suppose it takes balls to do such a thing, something most people dont have............
im a friend of wills and i know he knew a few of them
RIP
Mercury what you do is no concern of mine..i have my opinions and i will stick to them.
Sorry for the dead....andflowers for them...they died for us....but are you prepared when you join to die for people like ME?

Phil,
As someone who will be applying to join the RAF as soon as I finish uni......I am looking to join the RAF knowing that its a very fucking dangerous job. Noone wants to die, and I dare say noone thinks about it too much, you accept that it may happen, and get on with it.
Thoughts go out to the family of all those lost, as we say every Nov 11th, "We will remember them".

Cheers Phil...it was a genuine question as i am ashamed to say i wouldnt join cause i am not prepared to die for this cause....Sorry for disrupting this thread and sorry for anyone thinkin i was being disrespectful...i must say to think you thought that is quite bad as you must havie a very low opinion of me.

its not the case of dieing for people like you, you die no matter what, the only time i think of dieing is when i hear shit like this about the crew that has been lost and im in the forces, but i didnt join up wanting to have that fear over me all the time and it dont get to me at all, live is far to short to be scared of thinking when is my time up, i joined up for a career, and thats what i got
for all i know we could get nucked, i could be hit by a bus....... fuck knows and i couldnt care

thanks for the clarifcation phil, I thought you were being funny, as radders said, you join up thinking "it'll never happen to me". but I suppose in the long run thats what we are here to do
, I went to basrah in may last year supporting the hercs , and got mortar attackd 3 times, one of which landed 200 meteres from where we were standing
, which sort of brings home the fact that people really are TRYING HARD to kill you
,and that was in a "quiet" area. Its fucked up really as our troops in the army/navy/RAF get attacked EVERY DAY without fail, my mate has just come back from afgahnistan, which everyone has forgotten about, and they were being attacked all the time, 11 times in one day was the peak
thanks for everyones kind words, I will print the thread off and put it up at work.

Respect also as You wouldn't find me doing there job
must take alot of balls!!
RIP the 10 brave men who were serving for us. Infact RIP the tens of thousands of innocent people that have died so far.
I do not believe this...
...but I do believe they were doing what they had to do and died with honour. I am proud of our armed forces, and believe them to be the best in the world.

my thoughts are with there familys, i'm offen on base at lyneham and have met many guys and gals from there, may have even met one of these guys. theres a real family atmosphere on base and no doubt this has knocked everyone for six.
living not far from the base you see 20-30 c130's a day fly over, saw 1 yesterday and sent a shiver down my spine
