hi all, Ive got a clifford advant gaurd 5.5 in my 1997 mondeo st.. I dont really like the alarm much as its fails alot in the cold weather..
I called GAP security to ask how much it would cost to remove and they quoted £155 + vat and call out.. wtf?
Are there any other companys out there that can take out the alarm for me and be mobile too. Really would like to get it out asap if poss.
many thanks.

don't go to gap
ask someone who's local to help you or simply start following the loom from the alarm to where it joins up the main one and start disconnectings it

Then when i get in the car after 30secs from disarming i have to turn it to ignition on and press the unlock button for the ignition to come on, so annoying.
I would easily have a go at taking it out myself but im not that great at electrics so dont want to totally disable the car , lol

I ended up taking my own alarm Or should I say alarm/immobilisors out myself. No expert in electrics but its quite obvious once you get stuck in.
I had one alarm/ 2 immobilisors - took my time and removed it.
I too was concerned I may make matters worse, but I kept a tab of what I removed and made sure I reconnected a step at a time.
cheers

It may seem daunting, but is in fact easy, the hardest bit is probably re joining the immobiliser wires, this will simply be a interruption(cut) in the starter feed and power feed at the ignition switch, do as said just take your time, most other stuff is just unsoldering wires that have been joined in to others.

there's a pic of dave's escos when he stripped out the alrams from it, i think it took him 3 days all in and he knew wha he was doing, so make sure you've got a weeks holiday before you start fingering the electrics

GAP are massively expensive, i phoned about a Viper and was quoted like £400 when my local place does it for £200, i asked the guy at GAP and he said i doubt that - i said mate ive got the invoice for when it was fitted to my other car lol
