Default Insurance help for new UK driver.

Mates step brother is moving to the UK from Australia. He's 17 been driving since July. Problem seems to be that he's a racing driver. He's getting quotes (via his sister) of £6k for a 1 litre Corsa.

Anybody suggest a company that might be more tolerant of his age, profession, etc.

Err. It's his proffesion?? You are asked what you do for a living as part of a quote and they said that they consider it a high risk occupation. So it's got quite a bit to do with it by all accounts.

It only matters because insurance companies are scummy bastards and will use any excuse to charge more.

If you told them you were a road safety expert who crash tested cars all day long, they'd still say it was a high risk job.

It's a competitive market so they only charge more to cover their risk and its proven that new/young drivers are a bad risk, and young men are the worst of the lot. They might be pricing themseoves out of a market segment they don't want to be in, but that's their choice.

How is a road safety expert a high risk job for driving a normal car that isnt involved with your job ?

And what jobs arent high risk ?

So if you are jobless, does that mean it's very low risk to own a car ?

You spend all day taking risks, insurers believe you will do the same on your way home.

Footballers/celebrities are high risk because if they take a couple of team-mates out in their car, the "cargo" is worth millions.
