Personally, i have never liked overboost. But i do know a lot of factory built turbocharged cars have overboost, and almost every time i read something about boostpressure in here, its something like 32 psi peak and 28 psi hold.

Why not run 30 psi peak and 30 psi hold instead of the above example? I would rather have the car to pull equally hard the whole time when its on boost, rather than having a small or big boostspike when its coming on boost.

I think it feels wrong, its like the car looses some of its potentiel when a sudden boostdrop comes in after the peak pressure. I guess this also means that the lifespan of the transmission etc. will be shortened. And if the car is a sapphire 4x4 with more than stage 3 bhp it cant be sound with a big boostspike in the map.

I all of my turbocars, i have never liked overboost and i have usually used an aftermarket boostcontroller to control the pressure. In my current sapphire 4x4 i use a turbosmart e-boost street which i am very pleased about.

Does anyone of you share my opinion or is it just me that dont like overboost? Are there any particuler reason why so many people likes it?

Yes so did the Escos so nothing new, I guess it just gives you that little extra "ooph" for when you need it like overtaking etc.

I don't know but I think a spike is different to over boost although both the same principle as you say, over boost is programmed to momentarily run higher boost than the designated boost pressure?

Thats a good question Rockhound. If you get a remap, rather than the standard or off the shelf chip, do tuners remove the overboost spike?? Im wondering weather the extra boost presure is there at lower revs to give more torque until the HP takes over higher up the rev range??

I really need to know now! haha!

 

Can't comment on the chips as don't/won't use them, but my map gets to max boost with no spike, I think the spike actually helps to spool the blower up quicker.
