Recommend me a small/medium sized diesel hatch..
After a diesel turbo, not fussed what cc bigger the better as i can afford to insure anything diesel.
Want to downsize from my 2000 zetec 2 litre mondeo mk2 runabout, to a small/medium sized turbo diesel hatchback, preferably 3 door as im single male without kids and dnt need a big car really.
So far ive been looking at focus TDCi, astra mk4 dti and 206 HDi , the only other preferences are it must be 2000 reg or newer (older diesels are shite well the few ive had have been gutless smokey old tanks ) max of £1500 to spend.
Thanks

So that is all the later 110, all 115, 130 and 150 brake spec golfs, a3s, ibizas and leons.
IMO it's the newer diesels that are shite. The more refinement they build into them seems to affect reliability, with DMF's, direct injection etc.
If I were looking for a Focus diesel, I'd be wanting an older TDDi without all this common rail bollocks and dual mass flywheels!

It is the old old 1.8 lump that has been used for about 25 years. Ford did fit a Bosch VEP direct injection system to it on the Focus though. The same system that VAG use in their older and more reliable diesel engined cars.
As above there is no stupid DMF to go wrong and no fancy variable vane turbo to fail either.
Bullet proof.
The only real risk is the pump failing but that is the same with any derv.
I bought mine as a stopgap after my A6 got written off last year. Instead of replacing the Audi, I settled the finance on it and have kept the Focus as I like it so much and saved a fortune.
As for VAG TDI's the old VEP pumped 110hp engine is the daddy. The PD's are ok but do not get a 115hp version as they are prone to head gasket failure. The 130 hp version is the best all rounder.

Golf TDi (or other VAG), Focus is ok. 206 is a Peugeot and I find them generally unpleasant and I would rather walk than set foot inside a Vauxhall (in fact I frequently did as I often left the ex's Corsa parked outside and walked rather than have to drive the thing
)
)
Long live the ford RS'S

I have the focus tdci sport 53plate and its a cracking car, nice and sporty. Its got 142000 on the clock and still runs fine with no problems, had it remapped at msd
and its great !
Golf gt tdi's are great cars too! Infact all diesels are good as long as there serviced well.

Im a VAG technician, the PD injectors are prone to fail and at £400 a pop, is it worth the money? Whereas a standard injector can be removed by the likes of you, and sent to a diesel specialist e.g panda diesels and get the injector overhauled, OP has asked for opinions and ive given mine. You may find 110bhp is not a PD after all. but 115 onwards is.
And at the price £1500, can you find a looked after PD VAG car??
Thank you

And no i completely agree that a £1500 pd engine is likely to have more miles than the sun and be run down hence being at that price and not worth a £400 risk.

you need specialist tools to remove a pd injector, and a deep wallet, the standard VEP pumped injectors can be removed with standard injector sockets,and can be bought new at £110,or have the nozzles replaced by a specialist.
I wish id kept my 110bhp gttdi, if i had £1500, thats where my money would go...especially in summer running it on 35% sunflower oil lol !!!
