Does the car reach normal operating temp (Can be verified by checking gauge?) If not then it's likely to be the thermostat.

Cheers guys..not had a chance to run the car up to a full temp as its only gone 2 mins round the road and got the battery on charge (been parked up 3 months).. The gauge does move..highest it read is 70 so far.. will have a look in the daylight after the batterys had some time to recover

on peugeots they,re prone for air locks,on the heater pipe going to the matrix theres a bleed screw. bleed the heater first as its the cheapest option to start with.

as above bleed the system, citroen/peugeots are prone for the matrix being blocked, failing that it could be the gasket on the way out

Right update..

Managed to get the car up and running with a new battery. In normal driving conditions the temp sits between 70/90 on the guage only after a long spell in traffic/stioanry does the gauge move it then moves to 90/95 but once back on the move drops to 80. Rads getting hot all over, and the two heator pipes at the rear are warm but not roasting (you can hold them for a few mins easy).. Im guessing to unblock it its a case of venting either 1 of the 2 valves on the right (look like tyre valves) and hearing the air hiss out?

Sounds like you've got a thermostat stuck open if temp isn't rising.

My 405 is an M plate 1.8 petrol but the two valves on the bulkhead on the right are the Aircon gas connection point and you don't want to be venting those!

No air con on mine so guessing the valves are standard fittment.

Found a manual in the boot so ill have a look at the thermastat and the bleed screws seem easy enough (looks rather blue peter needing a litre bottle lol), But ive got another thought. The cars got slider heator controls and the temp adjuster moves a bit to easy as if its not attached to anything am i right in thinking that the resitor packs for pugs used to break?

The resistor packs do fail and usually all you get is fan off or full blast, nothing in between.

I've had my 405 from 7 months old and it has been a great car and still in daily use. No complaints here on French engineering.
My Cmax has a Ford-pug engine in it so plenty of French influence there too.

All I need is the answer to my question about the flash codes to see what it is trying to tell me. My local Ford Agent does not know but there are a bunch of brain donors.

A while back the auto headlights were playing up and they got a new sensor under warranty and then asked ME where the sensor was located so they could fit it!!

sounds like a air lock or make sure the heater flap is moving from cold to hot even if there was no thermostat at 95 while stood the heaters should be hot

Some models the controls work the flaps directly but other models that have a temperature scale on the slider have a automatic temp control for the cabin and use a motor to drive the flaps. These motor and gearbox units can fail leaving the flap parked where ever it stopped working.
The same problem applys to the recirculate flaps too.
