Default Dans 90 spec ERST project.

Hi all. Wasn't meant to be a project but such is the ownership of old fast fords. Picked it up 4 days ago and after two break downs and a tow I finaly got her home.

On the way home the electrics went and between detonation and failed fans the head gasket gave way. Also the clutch slipped in 4th and 5th just as it comes on boost. Here's the spec.

2.1 ZVH, Burton stage 3 head, Newmans camshaft, power engineering chip, baileys swirl pot, T3 turbo, GRS intercooler, aluminium radiator, kenlowe fan, balanced and lightened fly wheel, AP racing paddle clutch and an LSD box.

Jobs to do.

1. Sort electrics out

2. Fit new engine.

3. Fit new uprated gear box and clutch.

4. Buy some stuff (aquamist, fifth injector system etc) to prevent detonation as I would still like to run a fair amount of boost.

I've sorced an engine and box replacement and I'm looking to possibly replace the entire loom. All that's left to do is start work.

Well started work today and WOW did I find some shite. Took the dash out and faffed around in the engine bay. I found shed loads of redundant wire. The elctrics have been butchered so often, there's just stack of bare cable over the place. I also found some disturbing melting wire, hmm.
I also found a nasty amount of rot dotted around the place. Think this gonna be a money pit but I'm chuck dosh at it anyway, I can't be responsible for taking another one off the road. Here's some pics of what I found.

Got some work to do.

Thanks. Doesn't look too pretty right now. Don't see too many of them wheels diamond cut. Anybody know how much it costs to get diamond cut wheels touched up?

It's surprisingly not too bad under the carpets as it's been K rusted and re sprayed so fingers crossed. But yeah you're right, it's proper depressing.

Did n't get any car work done today but made some space in the garage for her. Need to get it towed up there this week. Been doing some looking at fuel pumps. Any body have any clues about how powerful of a fuel pump I'll need to run between 200 - 250 hp (I think I'm being realistic). I've been looking at a McGill Motorsports universal pump which claims 90 - 115 psi. Not sure if this is little excessive.

Bosh 044 pump will do the job. also i wouldn't bother with a 5th injector fuel delivery can be somewhat uneven lol
90% of the people on this forum will tell you to go efi. its the way forward. If efi is not to your taste i would have all of your fuel system refurbed and rebuild and you may see some good power from the mfi. 200 is more than achievable with just a few mods and a good set up. 250 is abit harder tho lol

good luck buddy.

Hmmm. I want to try and avoid EFi, I just think MFi is a little easier for self diagnosis etc. I reckon the aquamist system should work pretty well as it seems pretty adjustable. I'm also going to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a guage on it so hopefully a good tuner will set it up nice on the rolling road. If I don't like it I guess I'll admit defeat and go the EFi route. I'll have a look into that pump though, ta.

Managed to twist the bosses arm and he's let me work on the car at work in a nice spacious heated garage. At least the carpets will dry out now.

I've started removing everything now ready to lift the engine and put the new one in which should hopefully be here next week. I decided I liked the look without the dash so I'm gonna completely strip it. I'm not interested in music etc, I'd rather sit and listen to sound of turbo spool and dump (geek).

actualy electronic managment conversion like gotech mfi as this lets you keep most of the mfi set up (not to sure how it all works but its cheapist system becuase you dont have to buy all the efi gear change the loom etc)

speak to jamsport only dealer i no of

5th injector is abit old hat now and as i have been told not the most reliable system either and not cheap

have you had to cut your front bumper to get your intercooler to sit out so far dan?
or does dropping it low like that make it fit without mods?
