So here's my new project. Its a mk2 fiesta. Now before I start this car cost me next. To nothing. I don't want it to be a concourse car it's a POS and I know this but I had a couple of days off work and I wanted to see if it could be done.

So I started by taking the engine out and welding and plating up the cross member as it had snapped. I then filled it and made it look a little neater.

The next job was to convert the cable clutch to hydraulic. I removed a master cylinder and piping from a Mk4 fiesta and set about making a pedal box which would fit into the mk2. I did this by making up a extra bar on the lathe which extended the current bar which the pedals pivot on. I then attached the cradle to the existing pedal box and space it with nylon washers. I then cut a suitable hole in the bulk head to fit the new pedal box in.

I then set about transferring the bits across for the engine and gearbox mounts. Lucily all the gearbox mounts fit as do the driveshafts. So this was a easy job.

I then mocked up the engine to see if there would be enough clearance on the inner wings and lucily there was so this was another good and easy job. I constructed an engine mount and welded and braced it to the drivers side chassis leg and inner wing.

The engine could then be place into the car and everything seemed to fit.

This is about where I am up to with the build not bad for 2 days. Don't lay into the car as it was and is a rot box but hopefully when it's up and running then I can tidy it up abut better than it is.

The exhaust is still a bit of a concern with the spacing and such but I will tend tho that next week when I get some more time to fettle with it. All being well it should be up and running in the next cuple of weeks ready for a big engine mod. I'm not really going to say what it is but it's encorporated on new moto gp bikes.

 

i have a fiesta sitting about exactly the same as that and didnt have a clue what to do with it.. may have to lob a 2.0 in it. will keep an eye on this!

 

A 2.0 Zetec would be so much easier to do but I have just broke my zs and had the engine and puma box out of that. So set about fitting this. TBH I only put it in to do a few runs on rolling road for my dissertation rather than constructing a rig to put it on our engine dyno just thought it would be a bit more fun. I hope so it's only on 13's mini lites to so should be quite fun to drive I can't wait to vet it finished now I'm kind of in two minds to book a track day to give me a dead line to finish it sooner.

Ok so I tried to fit my exhaust fannymould to the car today and the steering rack is in the way. So I took engine back out and am ready to start cutting the bracket which holds the steering rack on and is welded to the bulk head and fanning a new one up a bit father back. Hopefully get this done at weekend and get engine back in and all wired up to my megasquirt.

 

Are you sure you want to move the rack? That could seriously fuck up the steering geometry.

 

Well moved it now it's only moved around 10 cm back. Will have to extend the track rods a bit though I will get some pics up. It's still at the same level and the exhaust now clears. We will have to see about the geometry and will get it on the 4 wheel aligned at work or string it.

I got down to sorting my bumpers out someone had brush painted them which meant I spent around an hour taking the paint off with thinners. I then thought I couldn't leave it in the beige plastic dull colours so I thought I would put a bit of colour into the car!! Got a bit of a theme running now which I may stick with.

I have also shortened my steering column to fit my modified steering rack.

I have also purchase all the extras for the fuel system and also temporary fitted my radiator in situe I will get some photos of this at weekend along with the wiring of the megasquirt and maybe construct a how to guide.

Along with the new purchases I have also bought a slimline fan due to the limited space because of the throttle bodies in the engine bay.

So just a quick update just to show where I'm up to with the rust box!!

Just some 13 inch mini lites there brand new came on the car! Got a good deal with them.
