Default absolutely gutted

Hi everyone,

i took a deposit two weeks ago for my car, and ever since i have had nothing but problems.
the new owner is due to collect the car the first week in november.

first the the rocker studs came out of the head, helicoiled all sorted.
just been out to road test it, after about twenty gentle miles i noticed that the temp was just under the red.
put heaters on full and got home, put it in the garage and realised the fan wasnt working.
then it started to steam behind the inlet manifold and the spat all the water out from somewhere behind the inlet manifold!!

All the hoses are in place from what i can see, i cant see where the water has come out.

im absolutely gutted, can someone please give me some advice please.

i rang a friend who seems to think its overheated due to the fan not working and has burst a core plug ?? does that sound right ?? is this normal ??

i hope it can be sorted, i wont be getting my new car at this rate.
any advice would be great thanks.

Feel for you mate
I've not had a core plug pop out but I supose it's not impossible, head gasket may well have gone though causing the water system to be pressurised, do a compression test to check for HG failure and find out for 100% where that water is coming from.

As above might be leaking from head gasket...

Which if it is aint to bad mate if you know how to change...

Its about Ł35 for a head set from a local motor factor and 30 for a head skim...

Then get on the blower to motorsport devolopements for a uprated msd fan switch and 82 degree thermostat for Ł35 for the pair...

So Ł100 max and will run nice when done...

Oh yeh add some oil and anti freeze mate... Say Ł120/130....

a bit of an update.

my fan is knackered, the steam/leak was caused by a perished hose under the inlet manifold and thank god my head gasket seems ok !!

im going to ditch my front mount and fit a double pace one and a standard fan.
fingers crossed everything should be ok.

i have noticed that my car idles slightly up and down when set at anything below 1000rpm.
any ideas on what would cause this ??? timing is fine, plugs/ leads are fine. does it with or without cold start plugged in.

thanks again for your help

a grs intercooler shouldn't be blocking that much airflow to the radiator surely.

it completely blocks air flow to the rad !
its been ok for me, does run hot in traffic.
by fitting the double it will give me a little peace of mind when it goes to its new owner.

he is completely new to rs turbo's

put a shit hot fan on it and it should be fine
i had a spal on mine and it would cool even after a top speed run then standstill

also if you are handy get a heater matrix, mount it behind the bumper and run the water from the turbo thru it, when that superheated water goes thru the pump (cos it bypasses the rad) its very very bad

i say run a matrix cos they are cheap as chips, nice sized ports and easy to mount
on the drivers side tho, the washer bottle is in the way on the other side

that must be nice for you, to fit my grs front mount without my car looking like something out of max power,i had to move the rad back making it within an inch of the turbo, that coupled with having a farty slim line fan between the rad and the cooler and then a big cooler blocking all the air in my eyes is recipe for a hot engine. and after searching through other threads i see that other grs owners have the same trouble.

You may have to shave the bumper slightly with 2 slimline ones. i accutaly run 1 12" heavyduty kenlow but theres quite alot you need to remove from the bumper to ge it to fit.

looks nice imo

just replace the hose and get a msd fan switch and thermostat... they are made for cars running aftermarket rads and i/c's as they tend to run hotter than standard

the msd bits i think are the best mod you can do for the money ....
