It is a useful quick check. Perhaps one to have on the favourites list on a mobile phone just in case you ever find yourself in a situation where you either suspect the other party is not insured.

Big up the curtain twitching grasses if they lessen the chances of my pride-and-joy being written off by someone who can't be bothered to get insurance.

I'm all for it.

Maybe it would mean an end to the facts like my partners 17 year old son having just had to pay Ł1900 to insure his first car, which only cost Ł500.!!!!!!

Un-insured wankers are a high cause of this.

I've tried it a few times for cars I've just insured. It's normally updated next working day, so obviously if you insure a car Friday morning, it won't be changed/updated until Monday morning.

I think you'll find that the chief cause of this is that young lads smash their cars up more often! One in five young drivers is involved in a crash in their first year behind the wheel, and under 21 males are 10 times more likely to have a crash than over 35 year old males.

It's painful, but young male's premiums are high because of young males!

Uninsured drivers however cost us ALL an extra Ł30-40 on our premiums to cover the cost of them not being arsed to pay. It's not helped by the fact that uninsured drivers get fuck all in the way of a penalty for not being insured.

Finally (and I'll step off my soapbox in a minute) we're ALL going to be paying more and more in the forthcoming years as the ambulance chaser's continue to dish out cash for pretend injuries.

My neighbour (professional scrounger) has just been awarded Ł60,000 for a crash a couple of years ago. A crash that was so bad that all it needed to fix it was a door and a wing!

after all that you think you'd be bitter about it eh

my proffesional scrounger neighbour only gets 2 cars, a loft conversion, an 2 bedroom rear extension and free everything for him, his second wife and their 6 kids and the other month when we were on speaking terms, he asked about sueing his solicitor for falling down his stairs when he went to get a letter from him to proof that my garage was built on my land and not his

I was done for no insurance 7 years back and I got a Ł1000 fine and a 2 year ban, at the time I thought I was being made an example of but looking back I got away lightly.

I will happily grass anyone for no insurance, dan do you know for certain what happened during your neighbours crash ?, do you know what injuries he sustained who's fault it was etc.
How do you know it was Ł60,000 ?, heard it from someone else ?, people can be amazingly bitchy about money, where money is concerned and downright spiteful with lies.
My bro got the same from neighbours when dwp paid his Ł1500 a month mortgage, for all of 2 months, but don't mind his Ł40K + a year tax going to the state.
I wouldn't believe all you hear about who has what money wise as compo.

Reality check if the plod saw you driving your car, or the car even parked on a public road at any time with what appeared to be no insurance, he can take the car FROM PRIVATE PROPERTY, without the landowners permission and seize it, he gave you the benefit of the doubt using his discretion, had he been wrong and the car was in fact uninsured he would be getting a bollocking.

Whilst you can legally check your own ok, if you check anyone else's without "just cause" you can be prosecuted, just cause meaning that you have reason to believe it to be uninsured for some reason other than curiosity.
