Whilst you can legally check your own ok, if you check anyone else's without "just cause" you can be prosecuted, just cause meaning that you have reason to believe it to be uninsured for some reason other than curiosity.

i would have thought it would be very hard to proove who looked up the details.why have it freely available if they only want you to look at your own details,you know if your insured
who aint checked if the local chav scumbag is insured.
